Hey all,

From what I can see there is not much difference between these two cards, but on the other hand I'm not an expert. Normally I ask you guys and gals here for advice when coming to computer equipment, soo.. here I am !

So, is there any significant difference between the two cards ? Like 'only' 5% difference, or more like +15% difference ??

Not sure if it matters, but it will be paired with a Gigabyte Aorus X570 Master board and a Ryzen 9 5900X. I was thinking of the 6900XT at first, but since the 6800XT coming out two weeks before, I am now wavering as to which card to go for. It's mostly for gaming so nothing else like photoshop, graphics work or similar.

Also, with AMD drivers normal making the cards better over time, would you estimate that there would be a larger difference between the two cards as time goes on ? If that make sense to ask ? :o

Thank you for any and all knowledge you be willing to share with me ! :D

All we have is the presentation slides at this point, the 6900xt is supposed to just beat the 3090 with your future set up but it's 500 quid less. So it's 15% ish better than the 6800xt for just less than twice the price, its your call

Thanks. Probably be going for the 6900XT although, considering how the sales of the CPU's are going I have a feeling that the GPU might not be arriving until 2021. :( Guess only time will tell though ! :p

The sensible choice is the 6800XT. However if you can afford the 6900XT you may have a higher chance before the scalpers kick in.

Yeah I been thinking about the 6800Xt as well, since it does come out 3 weeks before the 6900XT. I can afford the 6900XT the only 'worry' that I have is that there wont be one to get at launch, but have to wait weeks for it to arrive. Have even played with the idea going for a 6800XT and if not gotten it before the 6900XT order that one as well, then see which one arrives first. :o

We really won’t know until all the reviews are in and the dust settles.
The dust will never settle. RTX 3090 owners are to busy bitting it.

@TheSwede All the new cards will be demand if you really want a new card try and get a 6800XT but if you don't have any luck you could alway get a 6900XT instead. If you get buyers remorse (doubtfall) you could alway sell it on the bay and you won't lose your money.

Buy 6800XT if you can and then get the 6900XT if you have the funds then sell the 6800XT and get your money back no problemo. If you miss out on the 6800XT you still have a shot at the 6900XT.

This increases your chances of getting a card.

No no no don't get the 6800XT, the last thing I want is more people going for the smart money GPU at launch. :);)

I mean its overclocks (Ampere doesn't), it's faster rasterization than the 3080 and even the 90 in outline cases, DLSS is about as widespread as AMD's unannounced version yet so don't let that put you off, Raytracing still mostly aint worth it this gen for the performance hit, unless you like your 144hz monitor going back to 60fps.... In that case buy a PS5 and save the money for hookers and cocaine.:p

The 3080 is just silly at this point, the 3070Ti will match it in January/February Q1 latest (about when most 3080 backordered will be filled) so if you absolutely have to go Nvidia wait till Q1 at this point.
OR Be smart realise Nvidia 3080Ti will set you back (leaked $999 msrp and we all know what thats worth!) about £11-1200 realistically, sure might pull ahead of the AIB AMD cards 'might' but you can grab a 6800XT for what £650 next week? Over clock it get current 3090 performance in most stuff?

So no I advocate you all get the Nvidia cards still :D

TheSwede, you're building essentially the same system as I am, except that I'm going mini-ITX. I admit I'm looking at the 6900XT as for once in my life, I'd really like to have a top-end system. But the 6800XT is, as everyone says, seeming like the smart money. With the 5900X and X570 chipset you'll get all of AMD's sweet extra bits and bobs so it kinda makes sense to go all out and get the best you can afford. That's my reasoning anyway.

I was aiming at getting 2 6900 XTs... play those 20 multi gpu supported games and then sell one
but now with few channel checks that some folks have been doing.. it seems GPUs are going to be in tight supply
6900XT = unobtanium that would be available 3 weeks after the 6800 XT
which might very well mean that you would end up getting neither if you wait till Dec 8, the 6800XT is a safer bet :D

I suppose someone who is happy with either could try for a 6800XT and if that fails, see which pops into stock first between it and the 6900XT. It's what I'm doing.

Not sure which to get. I want to take advantage of my 4k 120hz LG Oled.
Based on a quick Google, either is probably fine.

I'd just get a 6800XT at launch and then see what's available in march since everything will probably be out of stock until then anyways, could then switch to a 3080ti or 6900 toxic.

I'm going for 6900xt. Finally decided to change from UW to 4k so want the move from 1080ti to net as many frames as possible. Monitor refresh still out does gpu capability in quite a few games so I'm after the best card for pushing out those frames as I can.

5900x/6900XT will be me for the next few years, I changed every year before 1080ti but calmed that down now due to increased cost and little return.

I'll still try and get a 6800xt though so I've covered all bases. It's a bit ridiculous right now that to stand half a chance of getting any hardware you're kind of forced into submitting multiple orders and run the gauntlet...

Guys, I cant help but feel the AIB 6800XT with great cooling are going to clock well beyond the stock 6900XT, just reading around and seeing the sign's online.

If you truly are looking for a 6900XT? I would wait for an AIB version or you may regret not saving a wad of cash and having something thats just as fast, i.e. AIB 6800XT super cooler.

Definitely be interesting to see how the non ref boards compare to stock. Personally not too interested in the coolers as I'll be putting it on water but board design I'm curious about.
