Rx590 crash logs (potential overheating?)

GPU: PowerColor Radeon RX 590 Red Dragon 8192MB

CPU: 3700x - Not o/c.

Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB)

PSU: Bitfenix Whisper M Series 550W

Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400 2x120mm intake fans

I have the above set up and the system is crashing when the GPU temp is around 73c-76c and the fan is going >2600rmp (3000rpm is also seen in the metrics).

Before I contact Overclockers as it was built by them I want to see if I can identify anything else, below is my notes:
  • I've had a look in the amd log file but I'm struggling to identify temps/errors in it.
  • With metrics up while playing I've seen crashes at 73c, 74c and 76c, the gfx card never gets to 80c.
  • Only thing Windows Event Viewer around the crash point is the critical shutdown error which is to be excepted since it didn't shut down clearly.
  • Drivers are kept up to date via Radeon software
  • No overclock or custom fan control in Radeon software other than turning off Zero RPM as the ramping up/down is annoying. I have also tried a custom fan control where the fan is high from the get-go but still crashes.
  • This only seems to get that hot/crash while playing War Thunder, Outer Worlds is fine I tried Watch Dogs 2 last night and although I didn't get into it temps were under 70 and it didn't crash. As are other older games which I guess would be expected since they need a lot less horsepower.
If anyone has ideas please let me know.

First, try limiting the power and so if it that does anything for crashes. Secondly, and my initial suspicion is that the paste on the GPU has dried out & that's why you're seeing high fan RPM but low reported temps, had the same on my RX 480 that was kept in storage until I took it out recently. A re-paste fixed it. Another possibility for older games is that the card is no longer stable at stock settings for frequency and there might be a bad combination of high frequency (typical for older titles) & lower load not being handled properly. Also easy to test - just lower frequency by 200 mhz.

I'd hope not, only had the system for ~11 months and was a complete Overclockers build. But will try the slightly underclocked version. Thanks.
