Oh I hate the practice too but this will always happen where people get so excited by a new product that they have to have it, look at iPhone between 4 and 10, look at the latest dslr camera (especially in the UK), look at the 3080 fiasco. I think if you really want to tackle this you need to tackle how people view these things more so than retailers responding to demand.

That aside, I was more responding to the notion that money is a finite thing.
I think the iPhone example is a good one of what I was talking about - Apple doesn't launch a new iPhone unless there is availability. They fly in full cargo planes directly from the factory stacked to the brim with phones so that this almost never happens. No one worries about iphones running out or pays a scalper 2x the price on ebay. There is enough supply, this nonsense that we're seeing here doesn't happen. AMD and Nvidia should learn a thing or two from Apple.

There are going to be a lot of returns if the reviews come back negative, since we haven't seen any mainstream reviews yet. Doubt it'll be bad, but just weird having very little idea on what you're buying.

weird, or foolish?

No thanks, I'd prefer my CPU/GPU not to run out of power in less than 24 hours, get gimped when a new product comes out and have the superceded product appearing in 18 months or less after shelling out silly money....especially when competing products are much better.

Yep, 25 minutes to go and I have no idea whether to stick with trying to get a 5950x or just go for a 5900x..

Thanks+++ really appreciate that. The choices (and decisions to make!) are overwhelming. And there is that uncomfortable thing called budget limitations ha ha. But, from your reply, it sounds like I'm not too far off track. The truth is I think, that comign from my old H530 it will feel like I've been reborn even if I stick at current spec. Cockos Reaper DAW is v light on resources, I'm only doing rock and roll so not too many tracks and plugins and I think the new build won't even blink. Condor Soaring is light end of VR also. Its MS Flight Sim (VR) that looks to need a hot PC for future proofing most. And it questionable how involved I'd get with power flying anyway as cross country gliding is my thing and gliders lead much simpler lives ha ha.

FYI MS FLightsim 2020 requires a beastly spec PC to perform, even on the newest Nvidia cards it struggles, that 2060 will cry if you try and run it :)

I'm not an Apple fan at all and I don't follow very closely their lauches but I can't recall any major complain about stocks in ther lauches. so , you got a really good point there.

I don't recall it being that rosy during the peak, stupid queues and having to book a reservation just to collect the damn thing but yes otherwise it's been good on supply. Which you would expect for the huge profit margin Apple makes on its handsets, I'm not sure we want more of that.

The reviews won't be negative, we've already seen enough numbers to know the CPUs perform it's just a question of value for money and finer details like temps, exactly how 5800X and 5900X compare, overclocking potential etc.

Well its overhyped for sure. People are going to be annoyed but what can you expect.

Agreed, I wouldn't be buying if all I had was the launch presentation info, but there've been enough leaks to make this a safe bet. Would've been nice to see more comparisons on the 5800x and 5900x though.
