EV general discussion

They have kona electric test too - just linked the wrong one in post,
The videos do show what the additional weight+torque do, for different ev's handling.

Multiple kona reviews comment on its torque steer&traction ,
.. F1/f1e drivers might not have traction control, but for most people going round a corner, you don't want ev wheel slip due to inadequately controlled torque.

The model3 shows good/reassuring body handling in the elk+slalom, just need to see the id3 tested now,
you can forgive a few software problems if it drives well.

I used to use them a lot. I have loads of invoices sitting in my inbox for a few kWh here and there whilst I nipped in for a coffee.

https://www.ecotricity.co.uk/for-the-road/our-electric-highway

30/15p per kWh.

And I used (or tried to use) 3 on Wednesday and when I tried to disconnect from the 11kW/h charger it warned me that I would be charged for the full 45 minute charging session. On screen and on the app. They billed me for the pro rata 45 minutes worth of 11kW charging but I’ll take it up with them.

That’s not an issue on the iD3 though as after 500km they just shut down and won’t go anywhere. And that’s a fact. They’re going down like flies.

That must be new... I've used them quite a few times over the years as well and always been charged 30p/kw

It’s more likely the pre-auth they take from the payment card. It’ll refund in a few days and you’ll be left with the unit cost. 45mins is the session maximum.

Just checked the app and it all seems to be the unit cost still.

km77.com have a 2020 Kia e-Niro elk test as well and they say in that video that the tyres fitted to the Kia (Michelin Primacy) make a huge difference to the car vs. the 2018 Hyundai Kona Electric they tested in 2018 on Nexen nFera tyres. I really think it's worth pointing out that the Kona has been built in Europe since 2019 MY and also has Michelin rather than Nexen tyres now. The rental car I have at the moment is on Michelin Primacy tyres and it doesn't spin them up the way the journalists were complaining about.

And km77.com also have a test of the iD3 but apparently it couldn't do the Elk test because the traction control/ABS system has a fault. They will test another car later. You couldn't make it up really. I agree the M3 LR AWD is excellent at 83km/h. It is a saloon car though, on wide, grippy, Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. The Mercedes AMG GT R only did 81km/h so the Tesla does seem quite special. And if you think the Kona/e-Niro were bad (74km/h) on the Elk test, don't watch the Jaguar iPace video. It only barely made the test at 73km/h. I can heartily recommend the video on the SsangYong XLV (72km/h) or the Jeep Renegade brake issues if you want to see cars misbehaving. I'm not really sure how much of a difference this would make in real life, but it is an interesting comparison.

I know you're trying to put a positive spin on the iD3 software issues but this is really a big issue. The various early-adopter YouTube owners are being very positive about it at the moment but if it continues for much longer I can't see them being so kind going forward.

yes and no ..the cabin on the id3, maybe it feels better than it looks, looks horrible,
but, with an exemplary driving experience, much can be forgiven.

Yes - the elk/slalom tests should be watched by the suv fans I'd liked the x5 one - there is some scary cabin movement even if it stayed on the road.

thanks hadn't realised they explained its omission.

My Polestar 2 was delivered today.

First impressions of the electric drive and feel are wow !! The car rides so much better than the 5 Series I’ve been using for the past 3 years.
The acceleration is really impressive. I had a Golf R for 2 years with similar 0-60 performance but this feels so much faster - It’s push your head back into the seat fast. Probably the instant torque delivery from the electric motors.
  • The frameless mirrors look amazing - why don't more cars have these
  • The start button is in the seat, so when you sit in it, it's ready to go
  • The surround view camera makes reverse parking super easy
  • The Pilot Assist is a great function to demo to people. Love the indicate to auto change lanes.
  • The interior quality is high - lot's of wood and soft touch plastics. The Piano black trim attracts the usual finger prints and dust :/
  • The full length pano roof lightens up the cabin

SDK - very nice .. interior looks homely.
(mundane question) genuine android, so will/have you installed your favourite music streaming app ... and how does data use on the onboard sim get accounted.

jury's a bit out for me, aero benefit, yes, but, whether a border helps to give the brain a quick distinction of rear, versus forward, view field.

I subscribe to Amazon Music so currently I’m streaming via Bluetooth from my phone. Hopefully in the future Polestar / Google adds an Amazon Music app.

@SDK^ You've exposed yourself. I literally sent your photo to a mate about 30 mins ago or so - In fact I commented on your very post about the spec being popular...

What interior is that as it looks like that could be the exact same spec as me. Mine is due recall work and wont be here till later this month :( I'm OV70VVB so not a million miles off!

I noticed a few of these at BCA at the airfield near Biscester. Is that where you are getting them from and hence registration prefix?
BCA Automotive are the guys distributing, doing all the PDI all the way through - This is where they are kept and where my car currently is :(

Are you referring to my Polestar Facebook post?
The interior is the Charcoal option.

It's unlucky for those people with the factory deliveries shipped whilst the recall was announced, as they are all being held back for the upgrades.
