Not getting full worth out my FTTP Package

Hey guys,

Recently my area got FTTP, surprising cause I live in the middle of no where but anyway I managed to aquire the 900mbps down package, I have now had it for about 2/3 weeks and not been getting anywhere near the 900mbps, always around 250mbps like something is capping it.

Obviously the first solution that came to my head was to ring up BT and be like yeah this isn't giving me the optimum speeds promised which I did, they reset it from the phone which they can do apparently. Whilst doing that I made sure I put back in the new BT hub I got when upgrading instead of using my 3rd party router (drytek vigor2860ac) and yeah the reset worked, then I put in my 3rd party router again and now it's capped again to around 250mbps. So clearly it is the router I am using. Fast forward I have messed around with all settings and removed the firewall (well I think removed it), I am still being capped so do you reckon it is just worth upgrading my 3rd party router, as yes it is about 8 years old so maybe that is the issue?

Anyone else got any other ideas on what it could be / What I could do for a solution?

Cheers in advance

It will almost certainly be the router, they just aren't fast enough. It's a problem with a lot of current models.
Just use the BT one for now, Ubiquity Edgerouter 4 gives full speed apparently, you want something with fast processing so high PPS.

Been researching into just getting another drytek, because I have all drytek products including extenders. It will just be easier to have everything the same for the sync factor. Looked at the DrayTek Vigor 2926ac, reckon that could do the job?

Its good that Draytek publish that level of detail on routing/firewall performance - I've not see it clearly laid out for other brands. I have a 6 month old Draytek that I love with FTTC, but will also be retiring it in 3 weeks when my 900 fibre is installed.

I'll probably run with the BT Smarthub 2 for a short while and then switch to one of the dual core Asus or Netgear routers that can handle 1Gb+

Yeah it is a great chart that, thanks to @Caged for discovering that for me :)

I have just went on scan and bought the 2927ac, got to stick with DrayTek, it's done its justice in my eyes.
