This post is in relation to my partners VW Polo.

Some Background Info - Previously bought a brand new VW Polo Automatic (DSG) which was rejected and returned at only 3 weeks old as the would not start and gave her a “Depress Brake” message despite firm pressure being applied to the pedal as you would in any Automatic car and the dealer was unable to fix and provided her with a long term courtesy car whilst another car was built in her chosen specification. Now during the 12 month ownership she has the same issue but less severe and more intermittent.

Issue 1 - Depress Brake (Pedal solid intermittently)

Intermittently when we get into the car it’s brake pedal is completely solid where even a firm press is unable to start the car and we are seeing Depress Brake messages, this left is unable to start the car on numerous occasions but we now realise if we put the pedal through the floor (Enough pressure for an emergency stop) it will recognise it and start and the fact this happens intermittently and on most occasions the pedal is normal leads us to believe there is an issue? We have provided videos as requested to the dealer.

Dealers Response - They have acknowledged the fault and even brain stormed what could be causing it but despite our best efforts they are unwilling to fix as they have only been able to “Provoke” the fault by pumping the brake pedal despite us providing detailed videos as requested.

Issue 2 - USB Sockets
Since new one out of the two USB Connections has been extremely tight in use to the point where it was mentioned on numerous occasions to the dealer whilst they had the vehicle which is when they said as it is working there is no fault and to continue using as normal.

Unfortunately over time the port became intermittently faulty and is now completely dead.

Dealers Response - Unwilling to repair under warranty as damage internally therefore to repair would cost us £137 + Vat (We refused this and disputed that it has been raised several times whilst they have had the vehicle for various other issues in which they offered to cover 50% of the repair.. The car is a PCP and will he handed back therefore we won’t be fixing and will use an adapter in the meantime but is this something to be fought for fixing under warranty?

Issue 3 - High Idle

The car seems to idle high at 1500 and then when up to temperature at 1000? It seems high to me unless it’s a characteristic of a 1.0 Turbo engine.

Dealers Reponse - This is completely normal and have compared it with another vehicle which is the same (Apparently)

Has anyone ever come across the depress brake issue? What are people’s thoughts on this and any advise on how to get the dealer to actual do something?

Idle is normal.

As it's on PCP, and you've got concerns about the car and or dealer service then speak to the finance company. They're liable under the Consumer Credit Laws.

It's a vacuum leak on the brake servo or a failed one way valve to it. Likely also the cause of the high idle.

The service manager once said this but as they cannot tick a box to say it faulted on them they aren’t willing to investigate.. surely it’s straight forward to check the vacuum?

Thank you

And if you don’t fix the USB sockets they’ll bill you when you hand the car back because broken USB sockets are not ‘fair wear and tear’.

Whilst this is true... I imagine this won’t be the case as my previous experience with a PCP Car is that you end up Part Exchanging elsewhere and they barely look around it whilst running a We Buy Any Car quote and offer more or less what they do.

Where as with a lease car someone would walk around and identify every chargeable issue.

Nice.
