Damn, just noticed they must have brought the physical release of Watch Dogs Legion forward to the 19th, it was the 24th before. I've already changed my pre-order to a digital one because I didn't fancy waiting a week.

My DualSense charging station is looking all lonely... :D

Anything we should be aware of? Hopefully these get fixed before Thursday. My thoughts go out to all those beta testers with bricked consoles.

Yeah a few:

▪︎Do not use rear USB ports or LAN ports for transfer after initial setup.

▪︎No external HDD reccomended until a fix via Sony

▪︎Do not use rest mode

▪︎Reccomend wifi until sony puts out a firmware update.

▪︎ "Soft Bricking" occuring with console owners after 1 hour into gameplay, and it needs a hard reset/ restore as if its corrupted (Using external HDD) which may cause a total brick if done a multitude of times

▪︎Fully update controller before shutting it off

▪︎Updates reccomended for Smart TV'S if there are any issues with no display

▪︎Use the included HDMI cable

From what I can see on Reddit.

Wtf. I don't remember PS4 having this many issues. I always use hardwired internet and rest mode so I should pretty much just not actually use my console then????

For the sake of perspective, it's worth keeping in mind that the only people you'll likely hear from are the ones having problems. Definitely a situation worth keeping an eye on over the next few days though.

Yes I agree. For every person reporting a problem - there will be 100s of others with none.

Making me anxious lol. Seems mostly OS/software related though agreed.

me too, i'm going to keep an eye out for the firmware patches. I suspect there will be a patch sometime next week. Probably won't fix everything, but hopefully will fix ground breaking things like rest mode, and storage issues.

Me too, I always have used wired connection.

I think i'll stll use wired, not external storage until I see it has been fixed and rest mode will be turned off all the same. Otherwise, i'm just going to play it! :)

I remember a time when hardware and software was launched in a finished state, none of this beta testing and day one patches :(

To be fair, the scope and complexity of todays games is absolutely insane. You could have 1000 playtesters going at an open world game and they wouldn't come close to finding all the bugs. At least we can now get updates and patches easily whereas 20 years ago you might not have been so lucky.

Some things are very hard to predict and test as well. I'm a developer and the things people do with software is mind boggling. You can't imagine the crap people do and then wonder why things break.

As a developer - I agree with everything you say.

That list of "things to avoid" is just covering anything and everything - there are plenty of people who have done one or many things from that list and had no issue with the console at all.
It will be a certain combination of things that cause a potential issue, certainly not all of any of the above.
For me I'm not transferring data from an old console anyway - all saves are in cloud storage. I also don't need the external drive initially as I'm only playing PS5 games to begin with.
But the idea that "plugging a LAN cable into the device" is going to cause it an issue is pretty laughable.
