Some folks have found the following fixes have worked for the "corrupted database" Error CE-109801-9.
- Update the system
- Ensure there is nothing currently downloading
- Reboot (not factory reset) your console. E.g. shut down the console and boot it up again.
- if the above doesn't work, try updating the system then factory re-setting it by going to settings>system>reset options> reset your console. -This won't affect the updates you installed. (Thanks to u/dustiebottums for this info!)
Additional tips from other comments/posts (These are just rumours, no idea if they help prevent the issue, but better safe than sorry!)
- Don't use rest mode...
- Don't use rest mode especially if Spiderman remastered is running. Close the game before turning off your console.
- Wait to transfer your data over from the PS4 until Sony release a patch
- If you are transferring your data and it freezes, do not unplug the system.

--------------------------------------------------------------- To be clear, this error occured for me numerous times and I did not have an external hard drive connected nor was I downloading multiple things at once or unplugged the console prematurely
It seems it can happen as some have commented when simply, changing the timezone, browsing the store, downloading a PS+ game, among many other things. It's not one thing in particular that is causing this error.

Had the ps5 up and running for 45 minutes....
Within that time I have had "the database has corrupted, it will now rebuild" error message pop up 3 times.
Called PlayStation, he said it often happens when you prematurely turn off the console. We have never turned the console off in the 45 minutes we've had it.
It first happened after set up when I changed the timezone to my city. Then again when browsing the store and once again after.
Have reset the PS5 as advised by tech support and will cross my fingers it doesn't happen again!
Update: it's been a few hours and hasn't happened since! So if anyone has the same issue, don't panic (like I did) and reset your console and hopefully you will be alright!
Edit: by "reset" I meant " restarted the console" ... Sorry if that wasn't clear. My husband pointed out the error in my post.
I have the disc version!
