To be fair, the scope and complexity of todays games is absolutely insane. You could have 1000 playtesters going at an open world game and they wouldn't come close to finding all the bugs. At least we can now get updates and patches easily whereas 20 years ago you might not have been so lucky.

Some things are very hard to predict and test as well. I'm a developer and the things people do with software is mind boggling. You can't imagine the crap people do and then wonder why things break.
As a developer - I agree with everything you say.

as a DBA / Jnr Developer I concur also, you can't guess everything users are going to do.

There will always be failures with electronics, particularly when they're manufactured in these quantities.......the problem nowadays is that people see it on the ionternet and then start looking out for them - it's a bit of a placebo effect.

I bought my TV a couple of years ago and have been incredibly happy with it.......then I watched an online video where a couple of minor issues were pointed out, and now those issues are all I blooming notice and it niggles the hell out of me!!!! :D

There's a difference of just being aware of what might cause an issue to avoid you getting problems against going looking for problems.

It's simply a heads up of things that you may want to avoid at launch so you don't have to try and get a replacement console.

Pretty much.
just gives you an idea of the things to look out for - Not all the things what will go wrong. I like to know as much as I can incase I get odd behaviour with equipment.

Otherwise - It will be played! :D

Argos have just sent another text:

Just as a reminder, your Playstation 5 will be delivered to you on the 19th Of Novemeber by DPD.

Not helping with excitement levels. :D

Me too, think they are doing it to try and reduce the amount of phone calls they will be getting from people asking about their console pre-order

Yep. This. I won't bother with my External HDD for a bit, I've still got my PS4 plugged in, I can always play on that or hold off.

I'll just use WiFI for now, though I'm really struggling to see how using LAN can brick a console (It's probably more to do with the data thats getting transfered from PS4's)

And lastly just shut the console down when I'm done using it, instead of putting it into rest mode. I can fetch all my saves from the cloud anyway, or I might just start a fresh with the PS5 games anyway.

Still good to keep an eye on whats causing issues though.

I reckon there will be a new firmware update mid next week.
There was one a day or two before US launch from what I remember.

Here

Got all three of these things checked as well.

That Reddit post is horrible so if anyone sees anything in addition to the USB/LAN/rest mode then please post it in here. At least we haven't seen smoke yet like we did in the XSX thread.

That wasn't smoke. It was vape. Microsoft put out a tweet saying that they shouldn't have to do this but, please do not blow vape into the console. :p

Some folks have found the following fixes have worked for the "corrupted database" Error CE-109801-9.

  • Update the system
  • Ensure there is nothing currently downloading
  • Reboot (not factory reset) your console. E.g. shut down the console and boot it up again.

  • if the above doesn't work, try updating the system then factory re-setting it by going to settings>system>reset options> reset your console. -This won't affect the updates you installed. (Thanks to u/dustiebottums for this info!)
Additional tips from other comments/posts (These are just rumours, no idea if they help prevent the issue, but better safe than sorry!)

  • Don't use rest mode...

  • Don't use rest mode especially if Spiderman remastered is running. Close the game before turning off your console.

  • Wait to transfer your data over from the PS4 until Sony release a patch

  • If you are transferring your data and it freezes, do not unplug the system.
Credit to u/realdarkstarinthesky for the dot point suggestion!

--------------------------------------------------------------- To be clear, this error occured for me numerous times and I did not have an external hard drive connected nor was I downloading multiple things at once or unplugged the console prematurely

It seems it can happen as some have commented when simply, changing the timezone, browsing the store, downloading a PS+ game, among many other things. It's not one thing in particular that is causing this error.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Had the ps5 up and running for 45 minutes....

Within that time I have had "the database has corrupted, it will now rebuild" error message pop up 3 times.

Called PlayStation, he said it often happens when you prematurely turn off the console. We have never turned the console off in the 45 minutes we've had it.

It first happened after set up when I changed the timezone to my city. Then again when browsing the store and once again after.

Have reset the PS5 as advised by tech support and will cross my fingers it doesn't happen again!

Update: it's been a few hours and hasn't happened since! So if anyone has the same issue, don't panic (like I did) and reset your console and hopefully you will be alright!

Edit: by "reset" I meant " restarted the console" ... Sorry if that wasn't clear. My husband pointed out the error in my post.

I have the disc version!

From what I've read, stopping all your downloads, powering down your console and switching it back on seems to resolve some of the issues.

I guess something is fundamentally wrong when you go into standby mode or the SSD is busy while you go into Rest mode.

That makes sense.
DPD should slip up and deliver it on Monday. :D
I agree make it easier for them selfs.

Well Assassins Creed and extra controller still not arrived from Argos via Royal mail. should have been yesterday not looking into tomorrow. Not to bad though as those guys are working hard!

Well I messed up the rental thing, I signed up then added the two games I wanted (AC/MM) and both were all on rent, however it didn't show that until after I'd added them to my list. I had to pay upfront as trial accounts cant rent PS5 games so I had no way of knowing until then. Needless to say I've sent an email to customer service.
