Hi all,

does anyone have any experience with load-sharing connections?

I set one of these LTE routers up yesterday with load sharing on being fed by another LTE router but so far it only uses the main internal connection. The settings are pretty simple and do not have many options other than load sharing or failover modes.

are there certain criteria to be met for the second connection to jump in?

Cheers

Soogs

How are you trying to implement this? I've had a look at the manual and as far as I can tell, it does failover, not load balancing. And it looks like it will only failover to the inbuilt LTE WAN if the external ethernet WAN goes down. At least that's how I read Page 23 of the manual. BUT! Manuals are often out-of-date from firmware releases so it's possible it had this in the menu but not in the manual.

Through the user admin page
internet > multi-wan >> Failover

the drop down box gives three options 1. nothing 2 Failover 3. load sharing

but thats where it stops. i can't see any traffic sharing when load share is selected. failover seems to work though.

My internet is a combination of LTE and FTTC. I use a TP-Link load balancer to mix the two connections.

There's an option in there to use one connection as the main, and the other as backup, or to utilise both continuously in various forms.

If there's not enough options, might be an idea to get a proper load balancer.

It’s still Failover. If you want true load sharing you’ll need something with proper configurable interfaces like a Mikrotik Routerboard device.

I've ordered an Edgerouter X which should hopefully be arriving any time now

Fingers crossed i can get it installed before the Mrs gets home :D

So I'm all set up and its more or less working flawlessly. not sure if ive made a mistake by upgrading the firmware though... felt more stable before the update
