Yeah there is definitely something to be said about Toyota and Honda reliability. I just realised that you maybe got a better deal on yours due to the petrol engine. I imagine the diesel ones are a bit more desirable for boring types like me who like mpg.

I don't know much about them I've always been petrol but I imagine the diesel equivalent of mine would be more expensive
I enquired about a civic today but it was missing a service stamp and I want FSH. Ive also realised that some colours look crap compared to others. So taking that into account.
Also just seen a pretty damn nice 2016 Titanium x Mondeo Estate but its mileage is a bit higher.
Its a tough choice because they are very different but i like both.

Prior to this year id probably do 15-20k a year. Im not particularly bothered about sporty. I prefer things like leather and comfort / gadgets. Reliability and safety are more important to me now we have a child too.
They do look great. Are they reliable? Vag seem to be rated pretty badly in reliability scores these days.
Take your MTB with you for any test drive. You have to be sure you can fit in alongside it whilst at a Glencoe campsite 
A nice big Mondeo or Superb would work well.
If you need bike space, then an SUV would allow it to fit inside, standing up on a fork mount attached to the front wheel like so:

Haha good point mate. I hadnt considered my sleeping arrangement. My mk3 mondeo saved me putting a tent up. I have a thule roof mount now so ill be putting bars on the top of whatever car I choose.
Right now its looking like £9500 gets a Mondeo 70k miles or a Civic with 45k miles. The Superbs look to be around £10500-11 with 70k miles.

Another vote for the Superb here. I had a mk2 170TDI and it was an excellent car, absolutely bags of room in the back for the kids and a cavernous boot even in the hatchback form that I had. It was also fairly pleasurably to drive even though it was big old barge. By all accounts the newer generation Superbs are even bigger and better. I'm currently going through a mid-life crisis and driving a mk3 Octavia estate VRS petrol, which incidentally was a smidge over 10k. it's a brilliant car with almost the same room as the Superb, but a lot more fun to tat around in!
The passat is a nice looking car but commands around 11k+ for right spec / miles. I do like them.

Most reliable car I have owned. Had it since it was 6 months old and I think 7.5k on clock, it will be 6 years old in March and it's got around 80k on now. Just tyres and servicing, I replaced the front disks and pads myself back in March this year I think it was.
Mine is the 170bhp diesel matched to the DSG gearbox.
Struggling to get a replacement so instead keeping this and will replace the Aygo with an electric lease through the wife's work.
Such a great workhorse, great with the family and pulls the caravan perfectly.
I used to do a bit of mountain biking with a mate once a week, we would fit the bikes in the rear no bother with the seats down as I didn't have roof bars or a towbar fitted at the time.
When I got this I test drove mondeos, passats and even a kia SUV. But for the money this drove the best and offered the best value for money (even though it was a company car initially).
Highly recommended.

How about a Honda Accord? No idea what they're like other than big beasts and seen a few people with them on Pistonheads.
Passat is as dull as dishwater and not particularly good value for money.
As for VAG reliability, I’ve owned my 2010 Audi A6 Avant 2.0 TDI for over 5 years now, taking it from 60,000 to over 130,000 miles and bar a faulty fuel pressure sensor years ago, it has been absolutely flawless.
I haven't looked at the Mk3 Octavia, where is most of the space lost in comparison to the MK2 Superb?
Well after all of this I decided to spend my money more sensibly and put half the cash towards house improvements.
Instead I opted to put a deposit down on a 2011 superb cr170. More than half the original budget but means I have money to buy a new driveway to sit it on!

Went for one of these. Half alcantara. 98k miles. Fsh etc.
Will hopefully good for a few years and let me spend cash elsewhere. I think 10k was probably a bit rich for my work horse.
