How are you deciding between 6800 and 6800XT?

Hi,

I'm struggling to decide on which model to go for and with info so scarce it's hard to make a decision. I'm thinking I might just save a bit of money and go for a 6800 as it's still a huge upgrade from my Vega 56

I game at 1440P at the moment but want to go 4K next year and I'm not entirely sure at this point if the 6800 is enough

I'm leaning toward 6800XT at the moment just to be more certain of the 4K performance but will I just be throwing money away? I reckon the 6800 will be a bit easier to get hold of too

Opinions welcome, cheers

6800 if your on a 580 or below imho

6800xt if your on a vega or above :)

6900XT if your on Radeon 7 and or mental lol

Pretty good summary tbh. Im on a vega and trying to push a 4k display so the 6800 prob wont cut it out of the box. A custom clocked AIB will be on the cusp, so it depends on whats in stock over the next few weeks. If it dries up before xmas with poor restocking then its going to be a bleak winter for gamers wanting an upgrade! :)

Bleeeeaaaak i tells ya, Bleeeeeeaaak

Based on the specifications and pricing the XT is the one to get. But realistically, it may be all but impossible unless you are really rather lucky. There’s always next year I guess?!

I'm adding both to my F5 schedule on the day, will get what I get, then return/cancel accordingly based on the reviews or installation.

Preference would be XT, but either would be a big upgrade!

I agree with the op that the 6800 will be easier to get hold of.
The 6800xt will be more popular and will suit op's needs better.

It's nice they're doubling up on the release, I think it went a long way to making things a little more sensible at the Ryzen launch

Too much of a frenzy with NV doing them one at a time

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the difference in TDP yet? 6800 is 250W and the XTs are 300W. If you have a small room, you might want to ensure good ventilation, else it become uncomfortably hot inside. Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything ;)

A mild undervolt/overclock should suffice, although extended periods of gaming in a confined room in winter will generally get toasty - dependent on your room temp and devices in the room of course.

I was hell bent on getting a 6800xt but ive decided to hold onto the 5700xt, id be mad to upgrade for no reason other than a bit of Ray tracing, i dont struggle with any game at 1440p. Im going to treat myself to 32gb/3600 ram on black friday instead.
