AMD states that 6800XT will not be a paper launch- THEY LIED

Maybe wait until next week when the AIB cards are out. The word is that most of the chips went to AIB's hence the low stock of reference cards.

What has AIB card got to do with the 6800XT reference paper launch and the outright lies from Frank Azor implying it wouldn't be?

More like manufacturers were forced to make reference cards or AMD wouldn't give them chips for custom boards.

So today we saw the bare minimum number of cards they could get away with to make AMD happy.

Ought to be considerably more in next weeks AIB release but that could be a few thousand and still be correct.

I don't recall him saying that the reference card specifically would be available everywhere (in fact I know he didn't, as I read the tweet again earlier). Will anyone really care if the reference card is scarce if there are a ton of AIB cards available next week? Not that I expect there to be, mind you.

Simple business. why would he say anything remotely admitting to "limited stock"? saying something like that could then push people in the way of Nvidia. A company will NEVER say anything that could potentially push them to look at a competitors product.

I really can’t understand how people thought a relative minnow in the pc gpu market like AMD could launch with far more stock than the global leader.

If Tesco’s can’t obtain 50kg of salt your corner shop guy can’t magic up ten tonnes!

Well done AMD, Nvidia left you a large wide open goal and you missed it.

I deliberately picked a totally amateur league because that fits AMD perfectly. It's first world problems but for AMD to lie like this is pure underhanded BS.

AMD have massively dropped in the estimation of many with this outright bare faced lying.

Plenty of cards here but it wont matter as demand is so high for hardware atm
It become unrealistic to buy at launch day.
Add corona crisis, import issues and transportation costs atm.

One store got 90, 3070 cards yesterday, they sold 60 of them as far at a high hiked price.
3080 still not even restocked 2 months later

Nov 25 is next amd aib shipment

Local etailer got 3080's in stock about 8 different models plenty in stock and they sat there untouched for about 10 mins just after 2pm as I was watching them. Coincidence they went live just after 2pm ? :) All gone now.

AMD can't even supply zen3, they got no chance supplying a big gpu. They have burnt through their tsmc 7nm supply.
This. Writing was on the wall after the 5000 launch. Said it before that the GPUs were at the bottom of the pecking order after the consoles and CPUs.

I'm not sure why AMD have split the launch. Wouldn't it have been better to launch all the 6800 cards on the same day?
