BMW continue with their hostile "OK Boomer" marketing angle, despite criticism...

Yeah BMW have totally dropped the ball recently.

I mean, I didn't particularly like the Chris Bangle era either to be honest, but most of their current lineup doesn't look great.

I guess there is an argument that as long as the car is good to drive, rides nicely and is a really nice place to spend time in when driving, it shouldn't matter....but everyone wants to look out of their window occasionally and be happy with what's on the drive.

I'd probably still have a BMW X5 xDrive45e though.

Interestingly, it happened, albeit on a much smaller scale with Chris Bangle and the E60. And by the end of that cars life, it actually fitted in rather well with other vehicles being produced at the time.

The E60 certainly looked less jarring by the end if it’s production run, but it still looks awful compared to both its predecessors and its successors.

I'm not a boomer and I find all those social media posts irratating. The new cars defintely look like something only a mother could love.

The M4 maybe can pull it off but tbh its the M4 specs I'm most disappointed with.

510BHP 6 cyl turbo, 8 speed ZF & weighs 1769KG and costs around £83K before options. Jeez.

I'm biased but a Supra + £2K for tuning will get you the same power, same ZF box and save £27K & 250KG in the process...just saying.

Has there been some sort of big reshuffle in BMW over the past 4-5 years? The direction they have taken recently is very un-BMW.

Their USP for me was always well balanced, RWD cars with great engines and relatively subtle styling.

The new 1 series being FWD was a big deal in my eyes and these horrendous kidney grilles clearly show a shift towards catering to the Asian Market more. There's absolutely no problem with that as its clearly a huge market but the new models have definitely lost the appeal that they once had.

Are they the markets that will flourish, while the Western world is sinking into the Great Corona recession? Hence them not giving a monkeys that we all think they look ridiculous, because we won't be able to afford to buy them

Hopefully they will take them off sale then, so we dont have to see them.

The new 4 doesnt look so offensive with a number plate and in the black grill, needs to be a dark colour to mask the nostrils aswell. Im glad i got my 330e order in before some bright spark decides to facelift it with face buttocks :p G20 has been the nicest 3 series since the E46 imo. The current 1 series looks good apart from the grill, and the G30 is still relatively inoffensive.

Most big companies social media accounts are run by your standard nasty little woke graduate millennial. I doubt any criticism on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook gets back to the actual important people in the company.

Yep, this is the problem. They will hear some kid to run it because the old gits running the company don't know how to use a computer.

But they can seriously damage a company's reputation in minutes.

but everyone wants to look out of their window occasionally and be happy with what's on the drive.

For some it is an ostentatious display of their wealth and status and that is what they will see when they look out the window - money doesn't come with taste or any attachment for what they drive.

Probably true. Still, at least the M5 got a ticking time bomb V10 which sounds incredible. :p

That's the car that I most want a go of, yet never own. Everything else I want to try, I'd want afterwards. :p

BMW design language since the F10 has rapidly declined. They made cars that had slightly off proportions but didn't look too bad. Then the huge 7 Series grill appeared. Then a hideous redesign occurred on the X4 & X6, followed by the disgustingly bad 2 Series GC, the goofy 4 Series and then whatever the hell that iX is meant to be. It's a battle between them and Audi for who can add the most angular parts to their design whilst making the design too complicated and damn ugly.

I'm not sure where else I'll go if not BMW. A decent BMW is just so right in every area - great engines, great to drive, fantastic interiors, great infotainment and good looking on the outside.

Merecedes current offerings seem pretty competitive to me - are you not a fan?

They had a phase when the external styling was fantastic - current C Class - but the interior offering and infotainment system particularly was exceptionally poor. Then they introduced the class leading MBUX system - at the same time as repeatedly beating everything fitted with it with the ugly stick :(
