That's loud. He does say it's only the 6800XT and not their 6800 that has it.
Maybe coil whine is down to the gods coz there's a load of threads about 3080 coil whine too. When I first got my 5700 XT I thought it had coil whine and it does, but once it's in case with fans going (which is quiet on low rpm) I can't hear it. Also it might just be down to what game is running and at what framerate.
Guaranteed faster if buy the right oneCustom is guaranteed to cost more and requires you to wait a week longer

I think its a very impressive new effort by AMD to now compete at the top end for basic power and I think their next cards will definitely be a contender.
But for what is (on paper anyway) available now the Nvidia offerings are better (unless the 6900XT pulls off something spectacular). Priced not too differently, certainly not the AMD 'budget' price tags anymore and the 3080 even losing at certain game benchmarks in 1080p and 1440p still performs very well, or at least as good as you could want. But after checking the Cyberpunk 2077 thread, the amount of people waiting for X card or X CPU to play it on I can't help but think 'why would I pay pretty much the same to get a card that can't have all the bells and whistles from day 1?'. I understand RT and DLSS aren't important to some people but the fact the new consoles now support them (AMD or not) means it will filter into the PC market much quicker than it has previously and AMD at least for this generation just won't be able to keep up (No i'm not taking Dirt 5 into account as it is barely RT and I honestly see it as just an AMD flag wave of 'we can do RT!'). If you get DLSS as well then your're pretty golden, we don't know how AMD's tech will perform or look as its not here yet (which if I remember was a major complaint about the 2xxx series as none to barely any games supported RT, although I do think the 20 series was a joke in general, especially considering the prices).
Some people here do confuse me, if they are pretty much the same cost wise why would you buy the card that performs, yeah maybe 20% better in some titles that are already over 100fps at 1080p/1440p so absolutely playable on a Nvidia card but if you stick it in 4k which is certainly a lot more common now due to current TV's will lag behind. And if you actually want all the supported eye candy on like RT then whilst performance will drop on Nvidia it will still be playable but on AMD not so much. Just seem's weird. CP2077 is one of the biggest expected games of the year and you can bet RT will be sliding into other games at a much more rapid rate than the last couple of years due to consoles now supporting it.
I look forward to the next generation battle.

Infinity cache is scaled for a 4K resolution, as optimal balance, but what that means is that it's more than optimal at lower resolutions so it will perform better because it's overspec'ed for those, and of course high frequency is great exactly in less shaders heavy scenarios like lower res. Combined with the fact that Ampere is compute-heavy and draws a lot of its power from the numerous shader cores (which are very difficult to properly utilise outside of 1 scenario where it happens automatically - increasing resolution) & higher memory bandwidth which itself also faces a threshold problem - meaning that once you have enough of it it doesn't do much just having more or at least runs into severe diminishing returns, it means that Ampere will shine at exactly 4K (and above) and heavy ray-tracing, and RDNA 2 will shine at 1440p & 1080p.
They're not, that's the point. I'm not talking about the guy with bots or 50 tabs open spending 4-5 hrs a day trying to snag an FE, I'm talking about a normal buying setup. Maybe in 6 months they will be near the same price, but right now it's a 'get whatever is in stock and near MSRP' situation, and even today on launch day the AMD cards have clearly had a better showing throughout the world than Ampere. I looked around and I saw 3080s go for way over MSRP on launch day, and continuing to right now (in many countries). Meanwhile the AMD cards were still over MSRP but by a lot less. That's very, very important.
Small matter that MSRP as advertised by Nvidia and AMD is a scam for launch reviews to write down.

We have two companies actually competing at the high end now. Even the "overpriced" OC AIB cards will absolutely destroy last gen's stuff and do it for A LOT less money.
AMD is being a total douchebag with its rrp - basically there is no money to be made in it as a distributors or retailer. AMD wants all the margin for itself - AMD investors happy.
to be fair, Nvidia did it first but AMD didn't have to copy them
AIB cards will be much more expensive because 1) they will add a proper margin and then again because 2) retailers can add their proper margin

They are making cards which are better than the last cards yes. The point is the "MSRP" is dishonest if it is only used for a small batch of cards to claim value points in reviews.
It's like a wonky version of planned sales where items are clearly available on a shelf long enough at "overprice" so that a company can claim "75% off" next week.
In this case it would be reference cards being loss leaders sold at "underprice" so reviews can write it down then next week manufacturers are allowed to sell cards at "realistic price".
Actually there is a term for that which could fit.
