I'm curious if anyone much more knowledgable than me knows which GPU out there is the best value in terms of 144hz 1080p maxed settings.

For instance the 6800 would be a total waste right? Or am I wrong with this assumption?

You mean 144 right?

If we take Hardware Unboxed's 18 game average for 1080p it can help answer this.

If you want to fully utilise 144 Hz then the closest AMD card is the 6800 although borderline overkill by 20-30 fps. 3070 is bang on the mark for close to maxed 1080p settings. For the Nvidia side, the 3060 Ti launching in December would also be a good pick for way less money.

Sorry to hijack hopefully you don’t mind but I’m having the same dilemma at the moment.
I have a 1080p 144hz screen which I don’t plan on upgrading any time soon.

I’m currently running a 780ti which has been showing it’s age in newer titles for a while.

new generation aside as I’m not paying ridiculous money for one and rrp FE editions are rarer that rocking horse turd.
Are any of the last gen cards worth looking at?

5600xt for 250
2070
Etc..?

6800, or 3070 if you want minimum 100-150 fps on almost everything, not much point going previous Gen as you'll get old tech for not that much less money in my opinion.

If you really need to keep the cost down 2070 is out of the question as they are £400+(still), you would be better off with 3070FE and they are much easier to buy if you have telegram, or discord notifications. They stay available for few minutes once in stock, 3080 disappear within seconds.

If that's a bit high, than yes, 5600xt would be much better than 780ti and I think AMD has a couple of free games bundled with it at present.

1080ti, 2070s, 2080, 5700XT second hand are all capably 1080 cards will give you relatively high 1% FPS

new card you will be looking at 3070 but for 1080 gaming £500 price is a bit high.

Would wait for the 3060 if you want someone thing or 6700 or the lower tier to Radeon 6800. Tho 6800 is a very capable card, extra £30 is well worth the investment if anyone thinking about getting 3070

I’ve been trying to bag a 3070FE since launch with no luck. I don’t really like any of the aib ones and the price puts me off too. 469 for the best looking 3070 sounds ideal.

Cheers for the comments folks. Food for thought at least.

Do we really need as much as a 3070 for potato 1080p Res?

I would have thought farther down the stack would do it tbh.

Interesting replies, I've been looking at which card would be best to maximise fps at 1080p, I prefer 24 inch and that res for games like warzone.

I have a 2600x (I have a wanted thread open as I'd like to get a 3xxx...5xxx are like gold dust and I have a b450 so couldn't use one until january anyway)

What cpu do you have?

3070 for 1080p is ludicrous :p get a higher res monitor if you have 450 to spend on a gpu

I'm actively looking to replace my aging GTX980 as its struggling to fulfill my gaming needs with the latest titles at 1080p. FS2020 can be a bit of a slide-fest at times

Due to owning a G-Sync monitor I'm tied to purchasing from Nvidia but I'm thinking a RTX3060ti will hit the spot very nicely, hoping to get one on release date lol

Not at 120fps+.
What I quoted didn't state anything about 120fps.
Not even close. Shadow of the Tomb Raider runs at around 95fps with full ray traced shadows on my system. What would that translate to at 1440p?
Whilst you might get more fps on that 1080p panel, you're clearly playing that game for image quality and immersion, whilst you might take a hit on fps running that at 1440p it will be of much higher quality. You could even tweak settings to likely hit the same fps you are with a much better image quality still over 1080p.

Fair points. I do plan to go 1440 at some point. That said the 3070 is giving me a great experience with my current screen. Surely better that way round than upgrading to a panel your GPU struggles with?

Hi, what do you need 144 frames per second for? I'm happy with 60 with good image quality, I can't see why there is this massive desire to run things at a stupidly high frame rate, am I missing something?
