120 on M25

Do you even read what you are typing?

Yup. Maybe if you tried, you'd find it easier to follow the thread of this incredibly simply conversation.

I said that the opinion that driving at 120MPH should automatically warrant a jail sentence, regardless of circumstance, is idiotic.

That is not the same as saying that I think there are circumstances where driving at 120MPH is acceptable.

You said 'regardless of the circumstances' inferring there would be circumstances under which it would be acceptable...

In Scotland speed alone can be dangerous driving which can carry a custodial sentence.

I was nabbed doing just over 100 in Scotland about a decade ago, had to get solicitor and the whole shebang. Empty motorway and dry road but cops were lurking in some underpass. I had the speed reduced to 98mph by solicitor and had to pay about £800 and 6 points, it was means tested. 120 MPH could be jail time in Bonnie wee Scotland

No. Read the whole sentence. I was referring to the automatic allocation of jail time "regardless of circumstances" as being silly. You're conflating my view on the the act itself, with my view on the appropriate punishment.

- I think driving at that speed is unacceptable, regardless of circumstance. He should be punished.
- But I think the punishment of jail time is inappropriate without a review of the circumstances...which is the job of the courts.
These are not conflicting statements.

The courts may review the circumstances, and decide they don't warrant jail time as a punishment; that would not automatically imply that his actions were acceptable.

I've seen a few times where police have moved over to slow someone down and/or given them a stare/wave to slow down but not pulled them. Also seen an idiot brake check an unmarked police car that pulled out along side me, then paced me for a bit well ahead of the other vehicle, to force someone to slow down that was probably doing around 120 - but I'm pretty sure was going to let them go on their way after that if they'd continued at a reasonable speed. Other driver probably thought they were just a busy body though.

I think they use discretion also, a few weeks back I was branching from a slip road onto a dual carriageway and was easily doing 80-90 mph.. I was minding my own business and the road was pretty quiet but just as I was leaving the slip road a police van was also branching onto the carriage way it actually trailed me for a while, I agree with the poster who said anyone doing 100+ is just asking for trouble. I tend to drive on and make progress, I hate idiots hogging up the road so usually I drive at the speed limit or on motorways 80 or something - you wont get in trouble unless you are really unlucky.

I swear they aren't active on the M25 unless there is a reduced speed limit. Either that or there is significant leeway.

Pretty sure many people do up to 90mph normally.

Its your first post actually that led me to believe you are a dawdler, I love overtaking you misfits. Stick to public transport and do everyone a favour eh

And this why I'd love to see even harsher sentences. Bring you boy racers down a peg or two. The place for speed is the track, not public roads.

If anyone needs bringing down a peg or two I think its you, your posts in this thread have such an air of inflated self importance, its quite incredible. :p

bla bla bla

idiots like you are responsible for more accidents and deaths than people realise - if you stayed at home it would be for the best and not venture out on the roads at all

Slow drivers branded dangerous as they're blamed for killing more people than ever before
Slow-coach drivers have been blamed for causing around three serious accidents every week

I am not defending them but your responses are that of a road hog, 120mph is fast but not prison sentence stuff - BTW, what makes you think I am a boy racer? I drive on to make some progress - there is no law that says you need to drive behind idiots driving under the speed limit - its them people who are the problem on the roads, I think you fall into that category

Why do you keep banging on about driving under the speed limit? Nobody has mentioned it other than you. You seem obsessed with it.
