Right so i have been dilly dallying far too long about getting an upgrade on and i am going to commit to doing it before Xmas

i have been following the threads for a while and cant seem to decide what is the best way to go.

Points to consider

  • ideally i want to reuse my case(antec 900) & PSU (Corsair HX520W)
  • Would like a small SSD to run the operating system off
  • main use is for general use and gaming
  • i only run 2x screens @ 1080p
  • I dont play that many games and im not that bothered about running everything on ultra graphics
    • Fallout
    • Age of empires II DE
    • Darksiders 3
    • Fortnite
  • I am probably not going to upgrade it for a while, the last time was 10 years ago, so im not too bothered about it being upgradeable and ready for the next generation processor

i have seen a couple of threads which propose something like the below.

or if i fancied going down the 3600 route

is there a big benefit in going for a 3600vs say a 3100/3200/3300x

Taking this into account what would you recommend for a spec with a budget of £500 ?

Hi

The benefit of the extra cores will give you longevity as things become more demanding especially gaming.

You really want your games on the fastest drive is 500gb ssd enough ?

I would not get a b grade motherboard its one part that I would strongly advise getting new.

Your not going to add a 3600 on a £500 budget without sacrificing other things or buying it second hand.

Slight modification although a few items are out of stock at OCUK

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £495.98 (includes shipping: £11.10)

since all graphics cards are out of stock everywhere i wouldnt bother , oh and CPUs as well. Worst time to upgrade in computer History.

Forget the 1650 super. It’s slow VRAM bus and limited VRAM will make 1080p gaming annoying and pixelated.

spend £50 more and get the 1660 super (6GB vram). Or the 5600XT.

so i never updated this in the end but i ended up going the second hand route in the end, due to the lack of parts, and lead time on items.

I now have a new, albeit quite old, system

i4440
GTX 970
8GB Ram
Samsung 500gb SSD *Brand New

i am over the moon as it runs amazingly and has not struggled with anything i have tried it with.

thanks for the help above
