UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [8th - 10th Dec 2020]

Do we actually know what happened in the PSG game? Saying "the black player" when asked who was getting booked isn't racism if there are a group of white players and a single black player and you want to point our the black player. If I was the only white guy in a group of black guys and someone was told to pick me out I would think it stupid to say anything but "the white guy". There has to be more to it.

Ole needs to exploit the fact they have an empty bench and we can have 5 subs.

I am not sure why Ole goes for the back 5. It worked when all our players were injured and we had Ashley young but it just doesn't make any sense. He does it almost as a cautious option but it just makes everything worse. I am sure if we played a back four it would have been a different situation now.

Only positive I can see is RB look knackered already and hopefully ole can exploit with 5 subs as their is still plenty of tallent on the bench.

We changed to a back 5 against Chelsea and lost horribly, nearly lost to PSG and then changed to a back 4 and beat then. Then again today it has been terrible.

Because we played for a draw/hot them.on the break.

Defensive mentality instead if thinking, we ate better than them man for man so let's impose our own game.

With defending like that ole could play 15 centerbacks and we would still lose.

Surely a misunderstanding somewhere? I just can’t see why an official would throw a racial slur about. Career over unlike when a player does it.

From what im reading hes basically said "that black guy" when describing someone. Demba Bas taken issue with it and it kicked off.

Is this certain yet? I read that they don't know if the Istanbul players will return yet.

I guess not as BT Sport have just said they're having some kind of negotiation at 9pm (uk time, 10pm French time).

Potentially. It was a Romanian official who allegedly used the word 'negru' to refer to the Istanbul coach. The coach questioned it and Demba Ba asked why mention his race. They were using the Romanian language as a defense.

This game isn't over yet.
Hes just too young and not good enough to start games like this.

That's a pretty stupid thing to say especially as Martial and Cavani didn't travel. We shouldn't be criticising young talented players like Greenwood. Rashford has been just as profligate and he has much more experience. Greenwood has shown the right attitude and I'll back him to score. United's problems don't lie with him they rest with players like the captain who can't organise, inspire or even defend that well.
Anyway this game isn't over yet - lets see what they can do in the second half.

Meant to have said Negru which is black in Romanian. Not sure why he didn't just point at the player rather than refer to him by his skin colour but that could obviously be heard as another word as well.

That was Ba's point...why mention his skin colour?

That depends. If the easiest way to identify someone is by the colour of their skin then I don't see why you would dance around it. If you can see the guys number on his shirt then use that. If it was Peter Crouch I would say "the 7 foot white dude". Referring to the colour of someones skin is not inherently negative. It certainly isn't inherently racist. The world has gone a bit mad of late however.

I only ever refer to a player by the colour if their boots.

Can't even say man or guy incase they identify as something different to that.

I would like to think that it isn't someone completely innocuous. If you you have a few black players there and you said "this black guy" and pointed at one, thats not OK. I would wager that "the white guy" is said a lot in the NBA for obvious reasons. I'm sure we will find out what happened in time.

This is a true story. Once we were at school and were tasked of miming a country. My friend was given Germany. After he did it he realised he made a mistake but he did the Nazi Salute. Got taken to the the headmaster and accused of hating Jews. The irony of it all despite the circumstance was that everyone in the classroom knew which country it was straight away so technically he passed his test with flying colours.

Not the place but i disagree.

Pogba is a bold move. Is Ole thinking he has a point to prove?

RB are getting away with quite a bit of general roughhousery this game. Breaking up play before it becomes anything.
