UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [8th - 10th Dec 2020]

Surely for offside you need to see both sides of the pitch, the line they used could've been to anywhere on the opposite side.

Edit: That looked onside. Yep, that's a goal.

Everything about that game was odd. I'd have left the entire first team squad at home but you could half understand why he wanted to give minutes to Keita and Trent, and possibly understand why you would play a forward or two as they've been rotated a fair bit but starting Fabinho and bringing Hendo on just didn't make sense. I get that Klopp wouldn't want to hang the kids out to dry but had Fabinho pulled a hamstring we'd have been in trouble.

I think VAR made the right calls tonight but from a viewer point of view that's possibly the worst implementation of VAR I can recall. In all 3 instances we were left guessing as to what was or wasn't being checked. With all the replays and commentators guessing, we didn't have a clue so god knows what a supporter watching in the ground would have thought, had there been any of course.

Only explanation is Klopp cares more about winning than injuries which makes his argument about the number of games far weaker.

As bad as Origi was, there was no point bringing him off when he's played so little and why Salah played nearly 100 minutes is anyone's guess.

Agree about VAR, the final view they gave us for both decisions should've been the first.

It's normal and the right thing to try to win games, even if nothing is riding on it, and with that in mind I can understand the Salah pick - none of our front players have been run into the ground this season and Salah's already had a brief holiday thanks to covid. The Fabinho selection just seemed too big of a gamble with 3 games in 6 days coming next week.

I'm still not sure if the ball struck Mane's hand (it certainly struck their players though) and still have no idea which phase of play they were checking for their disallowed goal. The first decision ended up right but we didn't know until 10 mins later but even now I'm not sure what happened with the other two calls. It was just a mess.

Why were they given that pen though? They drew the line from Billys arse but from the front of the other fellas boot.

This is the champions league. If you cant get a clear enough angle to check on a still if someones offside you shouldnt be in it tbh.
