Should we be social distancing?

I work as cabin crew for a major UK long haul airline.

We don't social distance on the aircraft as we can't do our job properly while social distancing.

Once we get to the destination we usually have a 1-3 night layover. During this layover we (the team of crew that are working together on the flight after the layover) usually go out for breakfast and dinner together and often sit around the same table closer than 2 meters like we would in normal times. A few staff in restaurants have commented saying we shouldn't all be around the table and then when we tell them we work together and can't social distance in work then they still say that we are behaving inappropriately and should social distance and we have had a few other quite rude comments.

Do you think we should be social distancing during the layover's?

You should social distance as much as possible. It's not an on/off switch, it's a sliding scale. You minimise the risk as much as you can. In the aircraft this is obviously not possible, but outside you should.

What does alt mean?

He thinks this is somebody else's alternate account since normally first posts here are badly written and invariably idiotic, and yours is neither. Don't worry about it.

Our employer's policy is that crew are in a bubble while on the aircraft and during layover's

Oh okay, my husband does use this site though.

I have long haul flights booked on both possible airlines this could be, I shall hide under the seat on the flights ;)

I agree thought that distancing between your colleagues on layover may seem a little pointless as long as similar mask rules are reasonable when they can be

How many days is the whole thing: flights + layovers before you change crew?

Fair.
We are with different crew on most layovers. For example I could go to New York tomorrow with one set of crew and spend the layover with that same crew and fly back with the same crew. And then 2 days later I could go to Los Angeles with all different crew expect one or 2 people who I might have been working with on the last layover.

Flights are long haul, the layover's are either 2, 3 or 4 nights depending on the destination and our roster (flight schedule).

Hopefully you enjoy your flight.

We wear masks onboard the aircraft expect there are times where we are around each other unmasked when eating/drinking.

Your bubble is your team. In my last few contracts, myself and my team have a separate area that we can eat and socialize, as we are considered a bubble.
Goes to say we still do temp checks twice a day, tests as required, masks, and hand sanitizers. and we keep distant from everyone else who is not in our bubble wherever possible.

That's exactly how we do it. We do temp checks at the airport before every departure and we distance from everyone who is not our crew.

I imagined that would be the case, last long haul I did was late March and masks weren't a thing now, are flights generally not that full at moment? fair idea I can work out airline from destinations you mention, same one I'm using in Jan

Our flights are generally quite full, some routes are running at normal load factor (amount of passengers onboard)

Both airlines your talking about fly to the destinations I've mentioned.

I hope you have a safe flight.
