will the asus b250f mobo socket 1151 be compatible with 9th gen i5 9600k processor?
looking to upgrade my mining rig mobo into a gaming pc for daughter.

i read mixed answers,

thx.

Nope.
Courtesy of Intel's bottomless greed those boards are artificially limited to supporting only first two Skylakes.
It would need BIOS hacking to get that third rebranding of 6th gen Skylake to work.

thx, thought as much

looks like either getting a new mobo & chip then or, second hand processor

might get an i3- 7350k, according to asus will work on the board, might require a bios update tho.
should be able to achieve a reasonable OC.

With ludicrous prices of older Intels unlike to find one for decent price for low end four cores.

after looking the 2nd hand prices 6&7 generation - are more than current gen. go figure.

Thought you could only overclock on a z series motherboard.

FYI: 7th gen i3s are only 2 cores.

I'd look into a modified BIOS if you want to keep the board.
