Deterioration in standard of driving

Only had a 6 weeks off during the first lock down, been working as normal ever sense. I must admit, Just recently I have seen some awful driving, but that could just be that time of year?

I think it's more down to how insulating and comfy modern cars are. I drove back from Thruxton last night in torrential rain and heavy wind, in the 4C you can really feel all the elements working against you and I drive much slower because of that. Plenty of people in fiestas and such flying past me none the wiser.

The overly-assisted steering in modern cars just removes all the feedback, people get over confident. On the 4C, Elise etc you can feel exactly what all 4 tyres are doing.

It's no suprise that you start seeing eco cars in ditches around this time of year.

You need a 70% pay rise just to afford to work in London lol. It's getting hard to recruit people to work there. Either they want all of their travel expenses covered or they turn the job down.

Indeed, i wouldn't consider going into Ldn without travel expenses. But i would imagine that WG had those as well.:)

Reminds me of the time I got a call from a recruiter who tried to talk me into a city centre job, for less pay, ten times as long in time and distance commute, and seemed genuinely confused why I turned the job down. Apparently it was a ‘great opportunity’. Yeah a great opportunity to get into poverty.

My mileage has cut right down. From over 20k a year to just about 3k since April. Now when I go out, there is always seems to be someone pulling out of junction without the grasp of closing speeds. Just 30 yards from my house someone just pulled out of a junction without even turning their head to look.

Maybe just coincidence but I seem to be more wary and on edge now behind the wheel.

I'm still pretty awesome at driving. A lot of people do drive painfully slowly these days, but I'm not sure how much of that's due to lockdown - I've noticed a definite trend towards that over the last 10 years or so.

watch this channel. Covid times have increased the number of bell-ends and lack of common sense and judgement

What makes you say that?

We have a hard time hiring anyone in London now. People want to move OUT to somewhere less expensive, less stressful and less polluted. The only way to get people is to offer home working and cover their occasional travel. But these are mostly higher paid jobs.

At some point there is going to be a huge problem there with lack of people to do day to day jobs. How are cleaners etc going to afford to live in or commute to London? The outer areas are being "gentrified" and the children of the locals are being pushed out.

To be honest i have wondered this for years. Just how is this person selling me this drink at Westminster bridge Tesco Express affording to be here!

Since the start of covid I've still been driving most of the mileage I did becuase of work where I average about 150 miles a day.

Standards have rapidly declined this year however they were declining at a steady rate anyway.

Most of the time, in my experience it's people just pulling out regardless of what's coming whether they're just pulling away, emerging from a junction or on roundabouts.

However the biggest, most dangerous thing that's happening is red light running, not just foot down Amber gamblers but full on red.

I've most certainly noticed a huge rise in the amount of people driving slowly, at times it's like driving through molasses. I put this down to having tons of inexperienced drivers on the roads who previously used public transport but want to isolate a bit so have bought a cheapo car instead. Nissan Micras are invariably the worst for it, in fact I think they've managed to surpass the Honda Jazz crowd in terms of their inability to get a move on.

Yes, I drive quickly. No, I don't drive dangerously. Fite me.

People under 70 drive Honda Jazzes (****ed if I know the plural for them)??

To be fair to them, my ride on mower takes off faster than a Jazz.

Seen a lot of bad accidents & cars quite literally parked up the side of the road embedded in the mud & grass verge! So yes I would say driving standards have dropped massively  also by how poor some drive on motorways especially you have to seriously wonder how many actually have proper driving licences or did they just buy a photoshopped copy from someone on the internet

I have noticed this in my own driving TBH. I was being a bit more tentative in pulling out of junctions Into traffic etc, & feeling a bit more uncertain when navigating large multi lane roundabouts that I used to do daily without thinking.
Skill fade does need to be appreciated.

I watch those Dash cam compilations every so often. Seems owning a Dashcam turns you into a prize throbber! The amount who speed up to cause an issue or honk like a maniac at the smallest thing. Crazy!

Plus, how angry do they get behind the wheel? do they just do it for the YouTube comments? "what's this ****ing puppet doing???? ****ing ****!"

although, yeah there are some bonkers manoeuvres that get filmed too
