• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Are Scalpers Here to Stay?

Even AVForums classifieds has given up on their profiteering rules :( Used to be a really good place to buy goods from now it's like the wild west.

As I have mentioned before how could the gov/HMRC monitor all these avenues that scalpers use?

No, the government are missing out on huge amounts of tax, and tax always gets politicians moving quickly. ;)

Every year there are ppl on the eBay forums moaning they have had their account suspended unless they open a business account because they have been in effect trading, funnier when they've been selling personal pre-orders from retailers, trying to argue the purpose of that purchase wasnt to resell for profit, now if only someone would send them the VAT bill for the differences in price as well (as the bare min due)

Too true.

Also I can’t believe OCUK’s pricing is justifying cost.

5900x at a competitor - £509 with delivery inc
5900x at OCUK - £599 + delivery.

On a £500 part a 20% markup, what kind of costs does that cover that warrants 20% markup. If this isnt just profiteering off short term supply and demand then I dunno what is. OCUK isn’t alone. It is nearly all the shops to a varying degree. I have seen 5900x in stock for £730 also. (Hope this hasn’t given anyone any ideas at OCUK shop)

anyway I don’t buy the premise that MSRP is cost and we make no money on that statement.

Double standards by OC. When selling on the forum, you can't 'profit'.

thats 1 thing but also holding back stock drives demand and artificially inflates pricing too... ocuk are holding all gpus until after xmas. smells dodgy to me.. why would you as a shop not want to sell them unless money is involved..

Have OCUK added a Catchpa style check step to the ordering process since this debacle, that would at least give humans a chance I wouldnhave thought.

At their gpu prices? Would they care that much?

It would add some credence to Gibbo's "I'm with you guys", stance. Really I would have assumed they should already have done this, seems such a basic thing to if they are at all concerned with reducing scalping opportunities.

They wouldn't. They would most likely act on the advice of the public. So if people contact them saying so-and-so is breaking the law, then they would act. And that would most likely be through Trading Standards and or HMRC or something. So they would use us as police!

I think that the companies are hoping for a no deal Brexit so they can send everything vat free :D

Likely scalpers would have sold them for cash then the buyers would be the ones stuck with a faulty card

well if they sold them on ebay they would have put a claim in and got refunded easily. Anyone paying cash and not picking up from the sellers home is asking for it really.

people should be careful about how they talk about our overlords of the forums. Hell if i worked in haulage and had a shipment of gpu's fall into my hands (and i'm not saying i did) i would totally sell them for as much as i could at the moment.... making money is basically all our entire lifestyle is designed around

We now know where the missing MSI cards went :D;).

Well I'm being hopeful for no later than February for a 3080. I'm in no rush and I'm also going way over kill on the card this time anyway.

@
Just keep saving, by the time cards are actually available you'll have enough for a 3090:D
Hahaha :D

Even large companies are scalping now. That large American etailer had the RTX 3080 Master on its UK site at £1026 for pre-order this morning. And it wasn't a marketplace seller overcharging, it was the company itself. You can get 3080s on auction sites for that much. It sold out of course.

We just have to be patient and not give in to scalpers. At one point supply is bound to catch up to demand (or at least that is what I keep telling myself).

Do people really pay that kind of money? I personally wouldn't go over £750 for a 3080.
