*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

By far the bigger more important story is the consumers not getting their paid for cards. The tubers won't push that too far though will they? Why? because it isn't in the script that's why. And as for independent reviews, outside of GN who try quite hard, I don't think so...if you want to see the function of tech tubers then look at all the virtually identical pc builds on reddit and the likes, all using the hot parts as recommended by the tech tuber circle jerk. It's marketing, there is nothing independent about the whole process. Nvidia, AMD, the AIB's and the main tech tubers are all part of the same **** show.

As consumers that is the more important story I agree, but from the reviewers perspective I don't begrudge them for being outraged by what happened with hardware unboxed because as I said it threatens their livelihood, these supply issues do not. And I think the outrage we saw is evidence that most of those review processes are independent. Every tech tuber I can think of will state openly when a video is sponsored, otherwise it's independent for the most part, opinions may come into it where one company is favoured over another but that's why you shop around for reviews to get a balanced view.
For Nvidia to try and tell a tech tuber how to review a product and refuse to give day one samples until they change their editorial direction, was concerning for obvious reasons.
I don't think consumers needed to be outraged in the same sense reviewers did but it was worth keeping an eye on at least.
Am I being naïve or are you being cynical? Who knows?
I agree as consumers though, the supply issues are definitely more at the front of our minds.

I'm just using my 25 years experience of working with PR and advertising agencies as a designer. The depth corporations go to is way beyond what most people think - lessons learned by pharma being banned from direct marketing in the EU have now been applied by nearly all corporations. Those tubers are all in the marketing plan no matter if they know it or like it. They can be taken out too.

I couldn't get a 3080fe because the button never appeared for me, but I got a 3070fe, which I can use until my trio arrives from here, and then put the 3070 in my wife's machine. That's me happy enough.

Preach - it’s the truth
The tubers were very clear that they do not care about getting free cards and from my point of view there is no reason not to take them at their word. Anyone reading about this should watch the videos for themselves and make up their own mind. The tubers were very very obvious that they are more concerned about being blackmailed which is a despicable practice no matter what level.

The services that the independent reviewers offer by getting the early samples is so that people can make an informed choice of what to buy before they tie up best part of a grand for months waiting for new released products. That was why I waited for day 3 before I purchased. I watched the reviews then made the decision what to buy.

Just gonna leave this here .....
Why do we allow the giants to call the shots and bully.

I had the order button but when I started pressing it I got those red error messages on top. Decided to refresh and the order button disappeared :(

Yeah I don't know how it works. I was there hitting F5 on nvidia before the notification, but the button didn't appear. I went to the notification and got through but then there was only a price and no button to buy. Tried 3070 and it worked fine. I guess there were just too many trying to buy at once.

Over the months I have seen Palit Gamerocks, MSI ventus, Gigabyte eagles (3080s) all come up. I held off hoping to see an ASUS, any ASUS come up, but I have not seen a single one, even at scalper prices.

Because we want their stuff. If we didn't want their stuff they'd have absolutely no power to call the shots on anyone. As long as they are making the most desirable cards then they'll be able to do what they like. We need more manufacturers making cards for that to change.

I managed to get two cards in my basket today for the first time. One would only ship to Spain. My mother lives in Spain but they don't deliver post to her, she has to go in and collect it. Given the state of covid over there I thought the card isn't worth paying a mother for it. Got another card on a Dutch site, in basket, confirmed (I pressed confirm on the first thing that came up in front of me, paid more than here). But apparently they have to get back to me to confirm the purchase, no money taken. Probably shouldn't get my hopes up. Overclokers is still my best option.
