Hi There, My MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 3080 came this week! What is crazy though is i need some help. My current MSI GTX 1080 has 1 x 8 pin hole and 1 x 6 pin hold for power. The 3080 has THREE x 8 pin holes, which i didn't realize would be a major issue until out of the box - please note i am a noob at PC hardware. To my suprise the card came with NOTHING, no adapter or extra cables...! As such no use of the card yet for me. So the plot thickens...

I order TWO extra PSU 8pin cables (4+4) and they came in the post today. To my suprise these don't fit in the Power supply OR GPU, despite looking exactly the same as my old cables... However now i learn there is such things as 8 pin (6+2) and possibly others?! Looks like the same cable but with different combo's of square/rounder edges?

Basically in summary i have had to order even MORE cables, i got 2 x cables with this description which will come this week: adaptare 35118 20 cm graphics card power cable 8 pin PCIe male to 2 x 8 pin (6 + 2) black plugs

Will this work or am i tacking another train to wreck city again?!

Not had a queue update yet but I know the score lads its OK,the shops busy.this is just me thinking out loud (metaphorically)..last queue update i was 18 for the master 3080..this week there's been 10..and there's 6 incoming..which is going to leave me at number 2.so,I've come all the way from queue pos 168 to 2 over 3 months and now I'm off work for 2 weeks...gutted...I've kinda got my fingers crossed that there's been 3 cancellations.is that hit man still about?

I am also confused by Gibbo’s update on Friday, as it says only 6 are due, so does that mean the 10 expected from the 15th came in, if so where did they go as I was 3 in the queue and didn’t see one, or are Now not shipping those 10.

I think it will be after Xmas now before we see any more shipments I’m afraid

Finally, received 2 3080s, now i decide which one to keep and which one to sell (rrp ofcourse no scalping here)

the Zotac is a 2x8 pin and the Evga a 3x 8pin, both look extremely nice, i suspect the Evga will get better benches and frames

Though I wanted the amp extreme or the Strix OC,

by the way bought these cards out right from the web UK stores, ordered and received next day

Yup, but you're not mentioning price, or brands you had preordered before.
As far as I can tell, a brand new 3080 at the price we (pre)paid for it is probably still very hard.

Don't do it! You need three 8 pin cables from your three 750W+ psu +12v sockets.

PCI-E Power cables come with your power supply. If it doesn't have enough then yes you should buy additional ones that fit your PSU.

Thanks for the info bud.maybe both shipments are still in transit with the Christmas rush going on and they might both arrive next week.who knows at this point,the worlds on fire so I wouldn't even rule out alien abduction of delivery drivers with how 2020's been.

So i have a 750W power supply which has enough spare 8 pin ports to connect 3 x 8 pin cables from the PSU to the GPU (3 separable power lines). My issue is that i think i ordered the wrong 8 pin cables (4+4) when i should have got (6+2). 4+4 did not fit in the holes. I am only ordering 2 extra cables since i have one 8pin cable already connected and working.

I just hope i haven't wrecked my PSU by trying to force in the wrong cable... easily done when you think its the right cable...!

PCI-E Power cables come with your power supply. If it doesn't have enough then yes you should buy additional ones that fit your PSU.

Thank you for your reply. I bought the PC second hand so i don't have any spares or anything like that. The build is highly cable managed and so any excess was removed from the case (modular PSU) and dumped somewhere but i never got the cables...!

Can you share your opinion if this PSU is enough: 750W Seasonic Focus + Platinum

Also mentioned that i hope i haven't wrecked one of the PSU ports by trying to force the wrong cable in...

Indeed, incorrect cables, the ones you have ordered are for a motherboard connection, not GPU

Yeah 6+2 should be fine I have one in my GPU. 750W platinum should be fine as long as your not overclocking your CPU, but if you do run into any problems look up undervolting your GPU, it can be done with no performance loss.

OCuk are in a tier 3 area. It should not effect the E-Business.
