Weed Killer

I since used the stuff in the white bottle off Amazon and used it again this summer to clear my front garden of willow herb and it worked a treat. Only thing I'm having a problem with is the sycamore tree saplings, while the stuff kills all the leaves and they appear dead for a few weeks then all of a sudden they spring back into life.

Really need to get someone in to do something with the stumps.

Glyphosate will never take out tree samplings. Brushwood killer stands more of a chance though.

Tip for using glyphosate is put a splash of fairy liquid in when you mix it up if you are using a sprayer, or in the ready mixed stuff. Acts as a wetter and makes it more effective. Also you don't need too much so its running off the leaves. Just a dampening of the leaves on a nice sunny day when all there leaf pores are open.

Can you use glysophate in winter for weeds on patio?

You in theory can but I find it wont be as effective. I tend to stick to the optimum myself.

Temperature
The optimum temperature range for efficacy is 15-25C. Low temperatures, even light frosts give a good, but slow kill. Symptoms can take several weeks to show over the winter months, but the end result is the same. Hard or long-term frosts, when the plants go floppy and the metabolism shuts down, will result in poor chemical uptake and consequentially poorer performance.

High temperatures, in excess of 25°C, can cause scorch and stress - the plants ‘shut-down’. This leads to a reduced uptake and movement of chemical within the plant resulting in poorer performance.

Drill a hole into them at a downwards angle.

Then fill in the hole with neat glysophate undiluted from the pro 5l stuff off eBay.

Another tip for weeds is bleach works on them. You can get 2 litres of really strong bleach out of Aldi or Lidl for 50p.

I buy 4 bottles. 50/50 mix with really hot water and just throw it about everywhere or spray it. It will also do a job of cleaning all your slabs, patio and monoblock at the same time.

Always wear a respirator mask and a proper one out of screwfix for chemicals and gases when dealing with glysophate and bleach.

Got a big bottle of really strong glyphosate fromy my mate whos a farmer going to try the fairy liquid trick as while it did work last summer it was not as good as I had hoped on the slabbed area. I tried a few specific slab and patio ones don't know why they are specific but after throwing every chemical at them and they still kept coming back I ordered a flame thrower thing so that's this years toy :D

Or just put fairy liquid in your mixture that removes the wax.

Fairy liquid removes the surface tension as its a wetter, so instead of the chemical sitting on the leaf as a droplet, like when you've washed a well waxed car, it causes it to spread out. If the leaf is really waxy it won't make it more effective. All it will do is increase the surface area in contact with the chemical. If its still waxy enough to be protected it doesn't matter how much surface contact you have.

Glyphosate is design for weeds not saplings, ivy and brambles etc at the end of the day. A brushwood killer will be much more effective as that's what its designed for, saplings brambles etc. You can buy SBK for less than £10 from the likes of B and Q.

Glyphosate will only kill off what's there and growing. If its still in the ground and a seed, or blown in after it wont touch it. It is a case of repeat as they appear. Just ask and farmer about blackgrass. Some seeds can lay dormant for years just biding their time!

I was going wild spraying the Glyphosate all over my garden multiple times in the summer and completely cleared it of all the weeds. I don't think anything will grow now unless a new seed gets blown in. It's just those tree sapling stumps I need to remove and some of them are quite big as they have been there years after being cut down a few times.

Once we get out of Winter maybe March/April at the earliest I want to completely cover my garden borders in bark chippings, already got the matting stuff to go down. Middle of my garden is like a fancy stonework patio where a lawn once was and all I've got left in my garden is a few big shrubs which I'm leaving in but other than that it's going to be very low maintenance.

Pathclear is now poop since all nitrates removed, used to be brown/reddish granules now like liquid soap/cum and even the whole package does not kill weeds for long and it takes 2 weeks to even start to do that.

I used to start to get visible results in 24 hours and last 6monthsd with old version.

Some of these tell you for better results to use warm/hot water to mix.
