Hi,

I've seen a really nice pair of 2.0 speakers, but like most, they only take a 3.5mm jack. The xbox X only has HDMI, so can I plug the speakers into my monitor? will it sound crap?

The speakers are pretty expensive (£150), so I don't want to get decent speakers if the quality going into them is poor.

There is an HDMI to 3.5mm adapter you can buy, but it's limited to 4k 30, and the last thing I want is picture issues.

Thanks!!

You can split the audio from a HDMI cable with an adapter.

Like with most HDMI things...they aren't 'limited' to 4k30...they just might not be tested to it. I've used a cheapass chinese audio splitter to pull audio from a cable running 4k60 HDR and it works fine.

That's great news! I'll get one ordered.

Thanks.

That would work fine, however, you're likely going to be limited to simply stereo sound. But then, you'll likely be limited to that by anything less than getting a full stereo receiver/optical from a TV.

I would just plug the speakers into the monitor via 3.5mm jack (if it has a stereo out/headphone jack), rather than buy a splitter as someone else suggested.

No reason to involve a splitter if all you need is a stereo connection.

I am using the headphone output on my monitor for my Series X audio (going into a set of 5.1 logitech speakers) and it works perfectly (although obviously just not true 5.1 sound)

Some do . Some don't. I'm currently messing around with one of these into a Logitech Z5500 control unit from a Series X.

£20 from Amazon but it's currently out of stock.

Thanks mate, I'll keep an eye out. The one I bought said it did, but didn't.
I didn't really want to run a 3.5mm cable from my monitor as all my cables are routed behind the wall so would be a pain.

Pro Logic II from the monitors headphone jack for the time being. Not great. But better than nowt. They should never have dropped the Optical SPDIF

I'm still loving the series X though. Everything is just so much snappier and looks fantastic , even on a slow 32 inch 4k monitor with 30ms of lag.

Really looking forward to upgrading to a HDMI 2.1 Freesync monitor as soon as they're available.

Sometimes wish I was a TV gamer though. They have it easy.

I've found myself looking at the 43" samsung QLED.....must resist!
