500-series mobos get Re-size BAR aka SAM in this beta BIOS.

Let us know how you find the performance change if any as a result of these those people running 500 series and NVIDIA RTX30. I am downloading it now.

As far as I am aware SAM will not work with Nvidia cards until the driver support. So those with Nvidia cards will need to wait for Nvidia to implement SAM in their drivers.

On the other hand I believe people tested it with amd 5000 series cards and it seemed to have the same uplift as with 6000 series cards.

This will work with the AMD GPUs atm. But won’t work with Nvidia as there is no driver support.

I think it boosts average frame upto 10% across all resolutions but the biggest gain is the low FPS which can be upto 30% better which is significant.

So just done the bios update on my msi b450 tomahawk but haven't enabled this option yet as using a vega 56 (obviously would need driver support). Having a google around, looks like this will work with even the ryzen first series! So much for AMD only supporting this for their new gen stuff eh....

EDIT:

Ok, so there seems to be a difference between "SAM" (with this being limited to 6xxx amd gpus) and "re-size BAR" then????

My ASUS has had this since 08/12 but no mention of any docs or whether Nvidia will be supported but I wouldnt be surprised.

SAM is for 6-series
Re-size BAR is for Nvidia

But they both have to both have to be engage on the software level too, i believe.

Yup having a look on amd reddit, seems like re-size bar for anything non amd 6xxx gpu. People with 5700xt are saying resize bar works for them and is boosting their compute performance by quite a bit.

The features are already available on my beta BIOS (MSI X570 Tomahawk) that has been out since Nov but afaik needs nvidia driver update to get any use out of it.

Nvidia said they had this working several months ago. Now they are beat by their own aib. Perhaps one day the elusive tech. will make its appearance.
:D

Yeah better late than ever!

But at least they didn't come up with some gimmick name (SAM) and try and flog it off as their own invention.
Quickly followed by locking support only on for the 5-series mobo and cpu, to increase sales. That sounds very NVidia like, oh wait , AMD done that....:eek:

As long as the wheels of progress are turning for the consumer, all the better I say.

If they were telling the truth i am sure they would have demo'd it in 2020. Even if it was working on just 1 motherboard they had in house.

This is just another example of how dishonest they are as a company. I am sure they will get it working at some future point. But it does reveal, to me, that you can't take anything they say seriously.

you mean like RTX IO? :p
Haaaa! Exactly. But one day....

:D

SAM engage and defo working. Not a massive gain 1-2%
All benchmarks have gone up. Only by 0.2% in synthetic benchmarks, games by 2%.
Enabled in bios with 3090RTX.

Probably have to wait for new drivers to really feel it.

anyone tested this with an AMD 3*** cpu? i thought it wasn't supposed to work but that chart at the top seems to say otherwise...

I see it now works on Zen 2 with up to 5% improvement in FPS and 30% on the lows in AC Valhalla according to OC3D. Any extra performance for free sounds good to me.
