Are b450 boards still a good go to

Hi all

Bought a Ryzen 1700 off MM and now looking for a board, i don't have any Gen 4 components so feel a B450 board is the right choice, however will I have more benefits for X570 or B550 and will 1st gen run off either of those boards?

Also, are there talks of a new socket for AMD in the next year or so? if so that may help my choice.

1700 are not supported on b550 x570 plstform so b450 makes sense.

Yeah wasn't 100% sure if they did support... B450 it is

I think there’s some confusion. Most B450 boards, when the BIOS is upgraded for Ryzen 5000 series, will LOSE compatibility with Ryzen 1000 series chips. Most X570 boards don’t have this limitation due to the larger sized BIOS chips.

Amd list of supported cpu on diffrent chipsets which shows its not supported.

My X570 tomahawk also lists 1000 series as supported.

Thats confusing whats going on ?

Cant see 1700 on the cpu support list but can see 1200 and 1600.

The 1200AF and 1600AF are classed as pinnacle ridge (2nd gen). The 1700 is summit ridge (1st gen) so not supported by X570.
