MSI offers Re-Size BAR function ( SAM ) that works cross platform Nvidia / AMD 5000 chipset

Yeah well, you see how much hype you'll stir up with a feature listed as:

AMDs Compatibility Assurance And Driver Updates For Resizable BAR ;)

Smart Access Memory sounds unknown and exciting and it's not as if the majority of the audience know any better anyway so pitching it enormously dumbed down is about right.
AKA, AMD CADURBAR :p

Resizable BAR is part of the PCI technology and SAM is AMDs implementation of it i.e. the code in the drivers that tells the hardware how to use the technology. They just named it because these flashy anagrams help with marketing.

Resizable BAR is bit of a mouthful, how about ReBAR :D. SAM and ReBAR, how cute :)

I hope Nvidia show their solution soon... I had a 3070fe in my basket today and paused because of SAM... which in retrospect was probably a bit silly. Still it would be nice to know if green team will get it or not before I buy.

Aorus now have resizable bar drivers out.

I just flashed my x570 pro and enabled it, it also switches on some above 4g decoding setting. On an nvidia card so it wont do anything yet but the system works fine

Not a good idea to buy something on the promise that a feature will be added later on.
You also may not get an answer till the launch of the Super ultra ti 3000 series line up.

If i was Jensen i would pick SMA just for trolling. Smart Memory Access, now that sounds great.
Re jigging your previous post. They could go with SMARTx. Smart Memory Access RTx (since they love throwing in RTX whenever possible).

lazy quoting the whole lot - sorry. I do have g-sync monitor and use Adobe stuff too, but some pet of SAM would be the icing on the cake.

however if it came to my Titan x pascal I could just stick on that for a bit too

got caught out by amd by mantle and Nvidia by the 980ti's a-sync compute so I know they both do it

I have a 3900xt and a 5700xt system I need to build and msi 550carbon Will I get a increase? Debating about switching to nividia for a 3060ti.

That the F31q BIOS?

You're joking right? Resizable BAR and DirectStorage are not the same thing.

Who said RTX IO and SAM are doing the same thing? I said they are both clever names used for supported standards. Instead they can be called RBAR and DS. It is the same thing.
Sony PS5 GPU is doing exactly what "RTX IO" tells you. It eliminates the CPU by working directly with the hard drive - again read about UE 5 nanite technology and how the PS5 hard drive will be used in Unreal 5 games. Microsoft and hence Nvidia and AMD are a little behind but once Microsoft releases DirectStorage, they will do exactly the same thing. All of them.

Chill guys take a moment to read dont let this thread erupt into something its not.

At first I read as Mesai did but take a moment. The original name is ResizeBar when I did my research what was meant is its typical of AMD to use that and give it their own name as in SAM.
Same way as DirectStorage is the original name Nvidia take it and call it RTX IO. Same way Nvidia took Ray Tracing and called it RTX. Same way AMD too adaptive vsync and called it Freesync. Even if they did sprinkle a nano or so of difference.

What I read it as was typical of companies taking a tried and tested tech and then calling it their own name in order to Jaz up what is basically the same thing.

The more we find out about SAM the more we realise it was good old Marketing spiel when they said only Ryzen 3 and only 6xxx series can take advantage of SAM. Technically they are correct and its just to sell more new CPU and GPU's. As they have called it SAM and not ResizeBar they can get around the legalise and say that.

Dont get upset by what is basically Marketing BS. :)
