Just installed devolos magic wifi 2 full home.

It includes;
1 adapter - connected to my BT router lan port 1 (BT package 900mbps full fibre)
2 wifi adapters - 1 downstairs, 1 upstairs.

I have my office pc plugged direct into the upstairs adapter with an ethernet cable.

Devolo software shows a link of 850mbps from the upstairs to the main connection however when I do a speed test I'm only achieving around 200mbps. I get around 180mbps using the wifi to this adapter.

Is the software just crap and giving false readings or maybe I have missed something?

Thanks

As you’ve presumably chosen the top FTTP package available because you want speed, lay a cable and get it rather than paying for powerline and getting nowhere near it.

Ideally cable would be great but I will struggle to get to where I need without considerable damage to the house. I think I would need to go externally. I will probably do this in the spring.
At least now I have 250mbps instead of 30 from the home hub wifi. Also getting around 200mbps on our phones etc now. Not a complete waste of money!

In addition if anyone can advise, is it worth enabling wifi clone as well as mesh? Does this mean I can use the home hub router within the mesh all under 1 ssid?

If you don't want to run cable and you're still in the return window on the Devolo's send them back and at least buy some decent powerlines - Mikrotik PowerLine Pro

Yes, they're a bit more expensive and no, they don't have built-in WiFi but they supply 24V PoE power for a proper wireless access point (Ubiquiti Unifi UAP-AC-Lite, UAP-AC-LR or UAP-AC-Mesh are all 24V compatible and will do fine) so you'll get proper WiFi and unlike the BS powerline adapters that say '1Gbps' on the box, in the software and everywhere else but deliver a fraction of that, these say 600Mbps on the box and deliver 600Mbps under most conditions.
