My brother wants to build his first gaming PC after being a console gamer for years, He plays CoD Warzone and open world survival games. He has a Monitor and peripherals so Just needs a Rig.
He wants to go with a AMD CPU.
I don't know enough to suggest a build for him so be grateful if you kind folk could knock up a decent machine or at least point him in the right direction.

The £1000 budget is flexible so could go upto £1200

Clearance for the CPU cooler might be a bit tight with that Bitfenix case (going by their measurements would be -3mm) and only 2 fans included so would need to buy more. Wonder about something like this instead for £15 more (would still only have +3mm clearance with that cooler, but would have thought it would be enough with a bit of wiggle room that should be included in measurements), supposed to be fine for what it is and has very good airflow:

The manufacturers site does say 160mm for the cooler no not sure if OCUK entered the wrong info but still a good shout on the Lancool 215.

Ah that's interesting, had a look and seems a couple of other numbers differ too e.g. they give different max. graphics card length and PSU length... yeah guess OCUK may have accidentally pulled in some info from another case or something. Ah well.

Thanks for taking the time to knock this build up. Looks good, does that motherboard have WiFi built in? forgot to mention that he'll need that.

No you would need a wifi adaptor for the tomahawk or if you wanted a board with build in wifi then this is currently the cheapest option on OCUK.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £139.85 (includes shipping: £9.90)

For that cracking Ryzen 5 I would be tempted to go B550 and pcie 4.0 m.2 SSD, .... new tech, more £££s though.
Neither will make a difference for gaming though, better to spend any extra on the next tier of GPU.

But its a nice match with RTX 3xxx cards, and faster m.2 speeds. Maybe pcie 3.0 will hinder gpu's in 2 years time as well? Take your point at the moment though ;)

Been a while, didnt want to make a whole new thread tho, just a quick question.
He will be getting a 3070 eventually once stock is back regularly available... But until then he wants to get a temporary gpu just to get the system up and running for some 1080p gaming what card do you recommend for around £200 he's willing to buy 2nd hand if needed.

Here is the build he's thinking of going with, let me know if its all compatible.

Ryzen 5 5600x CPU
Gigabyte b550 Aorus Pro
Coolermaster 750w gold plus fully modular PSU
16gb Vulcan Z T-Force 3200Mhz RAM
Coolermaster Hyper 212 RGB Black Ed cooler
1tb Gigabyte Aorus NVMe M.2
Eventually a RTX 3070 GPU

You can get a 1050 ti new not a great card but prices being what they are.

2nd hand prices are also crazy maybe a gtx 970 or 980ti, rx 580.

Ok thanks for that,
So would a temporary GTX 1050ti or 1060 allow him to play games like Valorant & Black Ops 3 Custom Zombies?
