Are their any decent priced car handheld vacuums out there that aren’t uslesss?

For someone who just wants to keep one in the car to stay on top of things.

Found one in my garage but it’s pretty crap and doesn’t suck much up.

Then again maybe it’s just worth replacing my household hoover with a handheld one so I can use it in the car without having to get on the drive and stretch a cable out.

Also what do you guys use to keep your car smelling nice?

Autoglym Autofresh for me personally. Just one or two sprays into each footwell makes the car smell great. :)
Will look into this thank you & merry Christmas!

Currently just spray Oust I stole from home.

Cars still got a slight damp smell from when my car got flooded from rain.

Remembered I had a jacket and other clothing that’s been in the boot for months which probably hasn’t helped, so took them out.

Some half empty water bottles

Think I’m gonna need a deep interior clean in the new year.

Morning all.

I've been tempted with buying a DA polisher for some time. I have a bit of birthday and Xmas money burning a hole in my pocket.

I'm thinking either DA polisher, nose hose or a cordless drill... How exciting!

Is a DA polisher something that I would use one a year on the cars and then it be left in the garage or should I use it as a long term investment in the ongoing care of cars?

Looking around I can get something as cheap as £70 on Amazon wirh a few different foam pads or I have seen something like the DAS-6 with pads and compound on clean your car.

Something like this

https://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher-meguiars-hex-logic-kit

I do like to keep my cars in good nick but always applied polish by hand just wonder if I should take the opportunity to just buy a machine and be done with it?

Thoughts and recommendations muchly appreciated!

I bought the DAS6 Pro a year or so ago and I have used it a few times. Three times for a complete polish of cars, and other times to deal with areas of light scratching (for example once when my boys' football hit the car and left some light surface marring). It's a great tool to have but you should be aware that it is NOT faster than hand polishing. You need to really ensure that the surface you're polishing is really clean and well prepped, otherwise a small piece of contamination will end up being dragged all over the area you're trying to correct and it will end up worse than before. The same is arguably true of hand polishing, but your potential to inflict damage by hand polishing is much less.

My experience is to do a full paint correction you'd need 2 days, or at least one VERY long day!

That said, if you're intent on getting one they are a really great tool to have immediately to hand and are very good at dealing with light damage that would otherwise need to be seen to be someone else.

I'd suspect if you're looking to spend some money and want to get your best value from it then a good Li-Ion cordless drill/impact driver set would see more use. Something like this is a great kit for pretty much any home DIY job: https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-d...combi-drill-and-impact-driver-twin-pack/210hf

Hope this helps!

We've got a cordless Dyson and I find it really awkward to use on the car. I keep a cheap bagless cylinder vacuum in the garage and just use that on the cars.

Thanks for the reply appreciate it.

It's one of them things that is a little luxury to have and like you say can actually pay for itself very quickly reducing the need to get anyone out... Having 2 kids and in the current school situation having a solid 1 long day or 2 days is impossible... And may actually make the decision easier!.

That drill set looks like a great buy and will have a look for sure... Deffinately would be something to buy and probably last a lifetime! Having never had a decent drill before I may consider as still using a black and decker wired one!

You're welcome.

Just something to add that I should have mentioned in my original reply. If you buy the DeWalt set above, make sure you also buy a proper set of impact driver bits (should be only ~£15-20) as an impact driver will quickly destroy the standard screwdriver bits you would normally use. You can get a small set of DeWalt impact driver bits also from Screwfix.

Yeah thanks been looking into it a morning now... Think the polisher is out the window haha!

Not sure if I need an impact driver... Never had one so wonder if it would just sit doing nothing.

This in wickes seems good value and along with the bits comes in at £105

It depends how much you want to spend I suppose, but honestly just buy something good quality like DeWalt - the prices for just a drill are not much higher than the one you've linked.

As for whether you'd use an impact driver or not, you use it every time you want to put in or take out a screw. Once you've used a proper impact driver you'll never go back to using a drill or electric screw driver again.

Cleaned the road salt off my car earlier today! Pretty cold to do it :p I know but could not stand looking at how dirty it was anymore...…...

Drove a few miles back from having my truck MOT'd and serviced, etc. which they did a full wash - already road salt residue all over the back. Don't even want to think what it is doing on the underside of a Nissan Navara :(

Probably not good as this new stuff they use seems to be more corrosive & gooey than ever before!

Nice sunny day for about the next 5 hours suggest you clean it then if possible!!;)

Need to do mine at some point this weekend. My van was fine until a very kind farmer decided to empty half the contents of his field on to the road .

Nice lines on that Polo :)

A little winter waxing a few days ago, Polish Angel Master Sealant topped with Silver Alunite.
