Friend has a buyers report back on a 2 year old Golf TSI 110 DSG and it lists a minor oil leak from oil filter area.

Unless it’s something very minor he’s happy to walk away, only thing that pops into my head is that oil filter may not have been fitted properly. Any other bright ideas, common faults or insights appreciated.

For added context he’s in Aus and views cars as a white box to get from A to B as easily as possible.

Based off the very limited info and poor photo, my best guess is an incorrectly fitted filter. Of course it could also be a crack in the block, who knows.

What's the deal with the car? Good deal or market value? For market value I'd walk and find something else. If it's a few hundred cheaper it could be worth digging deeper but as always with these things there are usually many more variables.

It's market value, he's pretty much decided to walk away. I thought I'd ask incase someone knew it was a common, easily fixable problem.

Doesn't that essentially mean he should be looking at Japanese stuff which is a) plentiful and b) far cheaper to buy and run out there? Seems that even if this was a good example, it's not the right car.

Quite possibly, their current car is a old Toyota Corolla so possible his wife wants something different.

The Golf is an estate which he likes as it's not too big but has lots of boot space. Knowing nothing about the Australian market I've held back from recommending anything.
