Looking for a dash cam power bank.

The best and easiest options seem to be the blackvue battery packs, which cost more but more reliable but far too expensive for my needs.
Yeah I mean they are tailor made for this circumstance but as you say, so expensive... You can buy a top of the range AGM battery for that price and have a good chunk left over.

Hard wiring a second car battery is not atypical from the car audio scene I guess... Feels over kill.

Most hardwire kits with parking monitor options have a voltage sense that cuts power if battery voltage starts to drop. So you will never get a flat battery.

I have Garmin 56 up front and Garmin mini in the rear hardwired with parking mode.

Still looking and I am fast coming to the conclusion that the Cellink and blackvue battery packs are gve only viable means to power dash cams. But the costs are crazy! Has anyone found a good front and rear dash cam, which is small and discreet?

Looks fine. BlackVue never used to come with the hard wire kit so check that out.

For what it's worth, the Thinkware F770 that I have has been impeccable for ... 7 years now(ISH) in 3 cars. I chose it over the BlackVue and it looks like Amazon has them on a limited time deal. If you want to save a few quid I can hand on heart say it has been amazing. Caught two incidents which saved me a lot of headache.

Never had battery problems and parking protect works great. Just about to wire it into the E43.

Thanks, looks good, but the cloud service on blackvue dash cams looks impressive on paper, but not sure how practical it is real life...

I have literally been arsed to take footage off of my dash cam about three times. I guess a cloud service would have made it more likely...how does it upload the footage though?

I mean unless you are naming and shaming people on YouTube it's hopefully never going to be needed. And when it is needed...you'll be willing to put the effort in.

Can see the perk tho haha.

we talking about power banks or dashcams now ?

my Thinkware links to my phone easily via Wifi, just select the app, and up it comes, i just press "download" and it downloads that video to my phone
i can then upload it to my drive

Takes an age tho, and only 30 second clips. Proper crap streaming as well so a real nightmare if you spend ages downloading the wrong one.

SD card comes out very easy tho.

Edit; still extremely happy with my F770.
