GTX 960 big jump over GTX 670?

Sadly, my father passed away recently and I am stripping out his PC. Keeping the hard drives and DVD drive as a spare but was going to tip the rest then realised the GPU is actually bit better than my one.

It's a GTX 960. Not sure on the specifics. I currently have a windforce overclocked GTX 670. Obviously, mine is few years older (2012ish) vs the 960 which I think is from 2015.

Not sure it is worth me keeping it or not. I have seen some comparisons that show the 670 is superior in certain areas but all pretty old reports now from 5 years ago.

Any thoughts?

Should add that all I really play these days is ARMA 3, Hell let Loose, and a bit of Men of War.

Hello!
The 960 is better but not by much. Had it been a 970 there would have been a big difference but the 960 was rather weak.

Which GTX 960 is it? Your GTX 670 has 2 GB of VRAM and the 960 came in 2 GB and 4 GB versions. Obviously the latter is much better. In general - I don't play those games - you should find a modest performance improvement - 15% or so - but nothing immediately obvious. Whichever version it is is still worth keeping, and you can relegate your 670 to your backup box. Or run PhysX on it.

I have taken out the ram and hard drives though so it's just a CPU and mother board now once i take out the gpu. Not much point really. Plus the tower itself is knackered. Covered up with duct tape etc.

GTX 960 will be better than a gtx 670 how much who knows in your current rig. Worth swapping over make sure you run a benchmark with the 670 and then with the 960 so you can see the difference.

What benchmark software is best to use for this? Free ideally too.

Looks like the 670 I have is a 2gb one. So it feels like no brainer to swap them out now

Yes. It's a no-brainer to swap, but you might want to keep the 670 in a secondary slot if you can offload Physx onto it.

670=770=960 from what I remember.

I'd use the 960 as Maxwell has aged far better than Kepler, plus the extra vram and lower power consumption.

As above 960 maxwell is far better to have not just for the 3d but video decoder can handle hevc so will be useful for YouTube etc too
