When did RX 580's become £350 graphics cards?

I know cards are scarce but... what on earth is going on? I was asked for some pc build reccomendations so I suggested OCUK and knowling the current shortages everywhere I suggested an RX580 as a temporary stand in card until 6 series cards come available.

Imagine my suprise when the guy comes back complaining that RX 580's cost over £350. i had to go online and look myself as I just could not believe it.

When is a sense of normality to resume or is this the new normal?

On that basis my GTX 1080 is worth even more...? I'd definitely sell it if it wasn't for the fact it's being used while I wait for my RTX 3080!

Well, they were £300 and I guess they kept selling at that price so they thought they'd try £350 and see what happens.

Crazy isn't it? I've always upgraded my graphics every couple of years and got whatever is the best value for money in the £150-£200 range. I tend to not really pay any attention to latest graphics tech the rest of the time. So, I jumped on here recently as i realised i bought my RX580 in Sept 2018 for £183 and figured it's probably due my usual upgrade. Genuinely can't believe what a mess PC gaming is these days - my two year old RX580 now sells for nearly double what i paid for it back then! And there's not a card to be found of just about anything else.

I've just canned the idea completely. I can live with the 580 gaming in 2560*1080 for now, even if it means turning down the odd setting. It's actually made me consider if it's worth continuing with PC gaming after 20+ years, as even the main retailers seem not much different to the scalpers. If the two choices are get rinsed or just don't play PC games, it's not a great place to be.

I might start hunting for a 3060ti or 3070 to put in my second machine and sell my 1080 if used cards are selling so well!

Of all the crazy used prices I've seen, the 1080 seems to be around the most sensibly priced. I thought about selling mine in September, (when I thought my 3080 was only a few days away). They were going for 280-320 depending on the model/condition. You can still get them for £300-350 so not that different. Still crazy for a card that I bought new in 2016 for £469. 1070's climbed about £100 in the same time, and rx580's lol, they've like trebled in used price. You could easily get them for under £100 a year ago.

I'm guessing it's because the 1080 mining perf out of the box isn't that good in comparison to other 8gb cards.

If I could get £300 for it and pickup a 3070FE at msrp, I’d be beyond happy to be fair.

I can recommend the 3070fe. I managed to get one on the last drop before xmas as a temporary measure until my 3080 arrives (if it ever does), and its a really good GPU. They also look even better in the flesh!

I can't see any 580's for sale anywhere so not sure where you are seeing these prices. Do you mean these are second hand prices on the auction site of choice? What about the RX 590? Can't see many of these anywhere either.
