*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

I think we need to add shippers to the list too - not struckthrough and Scalpers.

So I left shipment agencies off the list mainly because I don't think their volumes will have changed, if anything their actual goods in transit will have decreased due to limited non-commercial flights/shipping taking place. That's why the containers are rising in cost, because if they're moving less the other items need to cost more. Remember while those goods are sitting in customs someone has to either wait or dispatch an additional driver - it costs more!
I personally don't blame them, I don't expect anyone to make a loss for me.

I can see how that could be true but with the reduction in regular traffic, I have seen some media reports that container slots are being auctioned so I do not feel sorry for them. If this is true, they are making plenty.

I did see an article the other day that shipping companies are increasing their costs significantly on products coming into the UK. The article stated that this was due to poor transfer times at the ports and ships having been sat out at sea waiting to be off-loaded and the subsequent knock on time delay. This has then meant that the shipping companies don't really want to drop off at Folkstone anymore therefore they charge more for the privilege of doing so.

Probably Control followed by Metro Exodus and then Cyberpunk 2077. Holding off Cyberpunk to allow time for CDPR to work their patch magic (historically just like every other game they've released lol).

Btw any Wing Commander fans here? https://wcrespace.com/ <- Wing Commander IV remaster mod WIP :O

I completed this game way too many times as a kid, did not know this existed, looks great - thanks!!

I was playing X-Wing at the time. After forking out £100 for my 1M of RAM for my 386 DX40, could not afford it :)
I think somebody ripped you off if you paid £100 for 1MB of RAM in 1993! Assembled my first PC in May of that year and I paid £30 per MB - I splashed out and got 4 whole megabytes, oh yes! Even had a CD ROM drive, single-speed mind, none of your fancy-pants dual-speed motorised tray nonsense! Oh how far we've come in less than 3 decades.

EDIT: Funny thing is, I didn't see the point of Windows back then. Was quite happy using Xtree Gold and Automenu to launch the DOS programs we had. Windows just seemed like something designed to make my PC run everything more slowly. I also remember umming and aahing over whether to go for the 486 DX-33 or splash out twice as much for the DX2-66 chip. I honestly can't remember if it was £150 vs £300 or £300 vs £600, I just know that there was enough difference to make me pick the DX-33.

Interesting, potentially my dad's vision of Northern Ireland being a major port again may happen. I should detail he believes goods will move from the UK to N.Ireland > Lorry over the frictionless border > out Cork port to EU.

I still don't agree with him - Manchester side infrastructure was looking hilariously temporary to me.
This morning a major customs hub opened in Swords just north of Dublin to handle UK-EU traffic. Cork seaport is also gearing up but I've not had a look yet myself - and the source I don't know particularly well. Belfast is having a little more trouble as a lot of the commercial Dock space has been repurposed since Harland&Wolff dissolved. But the DUP will throw money into it, as its not just graphics cards being undelivered. They need to maintain that UK link.

Interesting stuff ahead it seems.

were ramping up ferries to France and avoiding the UK land bridge altogether. Its just too bothersome. we don't want our goods stuck in a Kent lorry park.

Thought i'd come back to the fourms and see how everyone was doing, just seen the 3080 strix OC is now just off 1grand, making the difference between that and the 3090 FE I got a much smaller difference!

Also seems only 130 shipped since I last viewed this, i'd still be 400+ in the queue :/ maybe just below that if there was more leavers.

Would you believe it?! we've just been told that there's a global shortage on RGB control chips too :( admittedly, I had a similar conversation with Corsair late last year...but I expected that to materialise around xmas.

Add that to capacitors, PCBs, VRMs.....the fun continues!

obviously different manufacturers will have different stock piles and I'm not privy to that information. So it might affect some worse than others.

MLCC shortages, not something that makes headlines but the Tantalum market has been hilarious depending on what side you're on.
I'd trade a gold mine for a tantalum mine.

lol Being that I was the VERY last person to order a 3080 of any variety and I went for an ASUS Strix... I think I'll be here in a few months.... I'll just tell the missus I've been saving for it, suppose it will cover that hassle.

I suppose I'm paying very high odds for shiny RGB haha.

Seeing this morning that unnamed main competitor has cleared nearly all of their near 1100 preorders for EVGA 3080s, whilst my chosen retailer has cleared orders in the tens of cards.

This has changed my perspective from “I have made an unlucky choice of retailer” to, as far as I am concerned, OCUK has made insufficient effort to address the lack of stock from this manufacturer, or is incapable of doing so irrespective of effort made.

So which is it?

Probably not so great for them either, the merchant navy are in a spot of bother too may be some companies going under due to all this. Large new ships are being sold for scrap because it costs too much to keep them going in the current climate. They're all in trouble as far as I know. So, worst case scenario, a few shipping companies go under, there's a massively reduced merchant fleet and the cost of shipping goes up even more.
