My Asus x99-s motherboard manual states anything above 2133 is overclocked yet the processor spec states 2400Mhz ?. My ram is currently running at 1066.1 Mhz (FSB/DRAM 1:16), processor core 1198Mhz (idle), 100Mhz bus. SPD table states 2400 and 2666 possible on the ram. Stats via CPUz.

What's the score here ?.

I guess some will also say the speed increase won't be noticable anyway. I also assume the FSB will stay at 100Mhz yet the 1:16 ratio will change as the core speed ramps up during heavy use ?.

Thanks in advance

Ram is ddr meaning double data so 1066 x 2 is 2133 which is default speed but your memory may run at faster speed indicated by spd.

To set the ram faster you need to enable xmp profile in the bios.

Your board manual was probably written with the Haswell-E 5000 series CPUs in mind whereas your Broadwell CPU has a higher supported JDEC speed.

You should be fine running 3000 or maybe 3200mhz ram with XMP.
