A man has been jailed after a second-hand ambulance carrying a family was stopped by police near a supermarket.

Blessing Mukaukirwa, 32, of no fixed address, was stopped near Asda in Harpurhey, Manchester, on Wednesday.

The Zimbabwean national appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court where he admitted offences of driving while disqualified and with no insurance.

He was jailed for 32 weeks after his convictions activated a suspended sentence for other driving offences.

Traffic officers had earlier tweeted that the vehicle arrived at the supermarket with blue flights flashing and was reportedly carrying a family.

surely its an offence to drive a "second hand" ambulance all kitted up with blue lights and decals ?

Nah, I'm sure he got jailed for something completely unrelated.

(Also as soon as I saw the name "blessing" I knew he was a southern African :p)

Equally more impressive that all the cops seem to hang around the crash site rather than running after him once the train has gone.
:p they aren't Usain Bolt?? There's eyes in the sky...and they catch him. Stick to FB if you want to bad mouth Police.

A none traffic car gets to him, whilst half of the force stand around looking at a van and a train.

Sorry if i hurt your feelings about the police, have a tissue.

:p Sorry you got triggered for being called out for your dumb post.

Edit: "cops"

I was sat about 50m away from this as it unfolded, eating my KFC hot wings bucket.

I didn't realise this was what was happening at the time as I just missed them arriving with the blue lights on. I was wondering why somebody was kicking off with the police that they couldn't get into the ambulance and drive off.

I’m as ACAB as they come but officers have to look after the safety of the public first and foremost and if there wasn’t a rail stop on that’s more important than chasing a guy when a helicopter is already on him and he can be caught at a more gentle safe pace.

Only if the blues or siren are being used. You can buy used fully kitted out ambulances and fire engines readily from auctions. Police vehicles are also available but they generally decommission them before selling on.

22 months,no?

I think that's quite a lot, compared to most of the oiks on that show that get let off and do exactly the same thing two weeks later

Article said less than a year, so my mistake there. 22 months as a total seems not a lot still, given that a suspended sentence is supposed to be a discouragement for future offences. The way i look at it is these days the roads are too busy with all users and lots of public on the paths which makes (dangerous?) driving worse than when there wasn't as much congestion. The guy appears to have no respect whatsoever so i don't feel 2yrs would correct that.
