Ryzen 5800x upgrade, how much benefit would I get from switching ram too?

Been a few years since I did an upgrade and I'm after a new processor/motherboard right now.

I was thinking a 5800x and am frankly still undecided on motherboard (Feel free to recommend if you like - I would like two m2 slots and for it to be as futureproof as possible).

My main question is, I currently have this ram:
https://www.gskill.com/product/165/...DDR4-3200MHz-CL14-14-14-34-1.35V32GB-(2x16GB)

Would there be much appreciable difference in going to some faster ram (like 3600 or up)?

Cheers

No that Ram is fine. It is Samsung B die, so it should overclock pretty well using the dram calculator if you want to get it to 3600MHz. Otherwise it is fine a 3200MHz CL14.

What budget do you have in mind for the board ? Something like an MSI B550 Tomahawk is good for mid range, or the X570 version if you need wifi along with the B550 Gaming Edge wifi.

Cheers for the reply Lee.

I don't really have a budget if I'm honest, nothing much to spend money on right now so happy to buy shiny pc things. I was thinking an X570 board for the pci4 and get a new m2 drive (which is why i wanted the two slots so i can keep my older 1tb drive)

cheapest AMD

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £550.44 (includes shipping: £10.50)

all rounder but more

if up for intel but need a good cooler to push 5.1ghz across all 10 cores vs 8 on ryzen , also wifi on board and ram will be fine at 3200hz

10850k should be had for £380

Thanks very much orbitalwalsh, appreciate you taking the time to look mate.

I am thinking ill stick to an AMD chip, doesn't seem too much in it and apparently it uses less power so there is that..

Will take a look at that MSI board :)

Unless wanting 32GB of memory definitely no reason to change when having such overclockable memory.
I think old trusty Samsung B-die still holds top spot when it comes to combining tight latencies with clock speed.

Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite would be another X570 choise at £200.

When PCIe v4 gets common in NVMes withotu price premium could get 2GB/s bandwidth even from PCIe x1 slots using adapter.
