The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

Racing really does that, pushing you. But with Zwift it's just sustained threshold work, bouncing into VO2max type efforts and then recovering in sweetspot or just above. Does quite a bit for your threshold!

Great numbers too, not too dissimilar to my TTT effort, but at no point was I at sweetspot lol!

Yep, something i've missed this year, usually flying post CX season as it's all upper echelon power. Was the exact same avg power as last week but for an extra 8.5 minutes. All good

Good numbers mate, maybe we'll both be 4w/kg buddies at some point :D

Left work an hour early with the boss to to do a zwift race.

I can replicate 300w for 20 minutes quite a few times but getting into 320w+ seems impossible. I'll need to do some big blocks of threshold work.

I bought the Kickr Headwind, it arrived today. Yes, it's expensive for a fan... but actually, it's a really good fan at least! Made a huge difference, barely touched my towel, when normally it's drenched in about 20 minutes. It was an easier session though, so I guess we'll see tomorrow :)

I find I can't get my fan anywhere near how I want it, one part of my body is always too cold or too hot. Arms, hands or feet usually cold then either torso or head too hot.

When it's a bit warmer going to rearrange my garage so I can mount the fan a bit further away to try to just get some airflow over me as I seem to sweat like a pig but never get too hot at this time of year. Got one of those vacmasters but barely used it so far. Just my old normal floor fan with a big long stick to adjust its position....

I think I've experienced that when I've tried with fans previously, I guess as it's designed for indoor cycling, I was quite impressed how well the Headwind covered all of me quite evenly.

I've also realised this morning, why my 40 miler was perhaps so hard. Checking the route I did, the gradient wasn't all that bad, but it was gravel and I did it on a road bike with road wheels. Apparently the rolling resistance would have been about double. Not a huge thing perhaps, but might explain why it felt so tough?

Sick emoji.

Annoyingly missed the 3r race at just after 9 after jumping on my bike and finding the gears were awful. Derailleur hitting the flywheel and nothing indexed. Could not figure it out so chucked a different cassette on (12 25 out 11 28 in) and was pretty much sorted straight away. Very odd.

Jumped in the replay of stage 8 long and sat in the bunch z3 at 3.5w/kg for majority with pushes on the inclines. On the Last lap 2 guys jumped as we lapped guys, and just before last climb I saw a long lined out slower guys so pushed it up to 450w for 20 or so seconds and got up to the first 2 and then kept it at 5.2 w/kg for that last climb and last 2k through to the finish. (about 4 minutes) Think that's the highest my hr has ever been on the turbo. My god that was hard. Finished on 279w average. Bit down on power compared to Thursday but I'm slowly learning the courses and when and how to conserve power.

Out of interest, how far from the centre of bikes front wheel (ground contact area) does the headwind have to be to give you decent coverage?

Backed up this morning with TDZ Stage 2 longer with 284W for 47mins! opposite of this morning, I had no idea where anyone was on the road as it was so busy! and i was busy trying to change the CX on the TV when it all went a bit mental. Came through in 4th in the end. Think I'll be feeling it tomorrow.

Nice result!
I did my first century on the TT bike today. One of the toughest I've done, mainly because I didn't eat enough!
My neck was in bits during the last hour, lots to do here to get more used to riding that long in that position.

Thanks.

Impressive long times on the tt are hard and I always hate riding the tt on the turbo, it's even more uncomfortable than on the road. That and airflow going over you with your arms blocking most of it.

Really?! I found it pretty comfortable relatively speaking, mainly due to the fact my elbows weren't taking a battering from the crap roads we pay for in the country!

You think are roads are bad when riding a normal road bike, try it on a TT bike and you really see how bad they are.

Think it's the fact you're moving around my undercarriage is more comfortable. Arms just get tired anyway but it's a tt supposed to be uncomfortable :D
