Is my EVGA 1080Ti SC2 now broke? [again?]

Another thought you havent shown us the underside of what's being put on it.., also are you using the right screws... is the left side coming down enough
 
Im pretty sure im using the correct screws, they are the orignal ones and there arent too many different types of screws either. Ive taken the whole card apart and not found too many different screws.

The fan connector, I do check that every time - I thought the same thing (something which could get trapped); I use a screwdriver to check the cables to move freely. As you said, it does look very close from certain angles.

What did you mean by the underside/being put on it?

Im no expert, but why would the card work perfectly fine for a month or two after new pasted applied? surely something like a solder crack wouldnt matter if I repasted? The card wouldnt take an increase power-target before reappling, now will happily sit there without a problem (with a +20% for hours). Or do you mean its sitting slightly wrong and pushing the paste out slowly?

Atm, it actually seems a few degrees cooler now. I did wonder when I removed that pad at the top if the cooler might be sitting a little better now? The GPU seems to get to 69/70c, the second fan kicks in and drops it to 63/64c - maybe the colder weather is partly responsible? this house isnt exactly warm atm. I did think that the pad wont make too much difference to the memory chip, the sensor around the area (as its an ICX board) was saying 76c after removal - which should be okay for a memory chip. That pad at the top does connect onto the GPU cooler directly - maybe somehow not allowing it to sit correctly - it was the only thing I could see that could get in the away.

Kind-of feeling like if this card goes down again, and if I find the paste not covering the whole die get one of them pads. I guess that would stop the paste from working its away.
 
wack it up to 90c or something and see if it fails. if it does. then u know its temperature related.
I guess to reach that temp you would want me to disable the fans (through afterburn etc.). Is running the gpu at 90c is 'safe'? I guess you would want me to do it for only a short amount of time? thanks
 
It is fine, for few minutes. normaly gpus will throttle once reaching dangerous levels. if gpu carrys on on 90c for few minutes, then gpu chip might be ok after all. but if it crashes before getting to 90c then you have to keep it in range on 60-70 and maybe downclock it a bit.

okay, well I increased the power-limits to +20% and locked the fans to 27% (I wanted to give it some cooling). It ran for over 5 minutes during the valley benchmark (with no sync), holding around 90c for mostly;

No errors, no crashing. All I did was to repaste the die a few days ago, and remove one thermal pad (at the top).
