PSU: is Corsair RM650 good enough for Ryzen 3900xt + Asus RTX 3070

Hi guys,

I just upgraded my GPU to an ASUS RTX 3070 Dual OC and am wondering if I also need to change my PSU (Corsair RM650 80 Plus Gold). I ask because I saw on the Asus website that they recommend a 750w PSU for my system given I have a Ryzen 9 processor, otherwise 650w would be fine. I am also using a daisy chain cable from my PSU to the dual 8 pins to plug in my GPU to the PSU.. am thinking of changing that to 2 separate cables.

Specs below:

Ryzen 3900XT (will not overclock)
32gb Crucial Ballistix @ 3733 CL16 (66ns)
ASUS RTX 3070 DUAL OC (will not overclock)
Gigabyte Aorus Elite x570
Sabrent Rocket PCIe 4.0 SSD + Sabrent Rocket PCIe 3.0 SSD
NZXT Kraken x63
Corsair RM650 80 Plus Gold

p.c. part picker estimates 460 watts for the above, and Newegg's PSU calculator estimates 489 watts -although I realise those aren't very helpful

Hi

I think YOU can get away with 650w but if your uneasy then change it, Change thd 8 pin to two cables not daisy changed.

Ditto, in theory you should be ok. Older poor quality 650W psu's might struggle due to Ampere power spikes.

I just bought my PSU from Corsair in August 2020 so its pretty new...

Yours is 1000w though! mine only 650

Yeah bought for a Crossfire rig way back, but still keeping the new 3080 fired up nicely

RTX 3070 is 200W
3900XT is 150W if you do all core OC
your system is probably another 100-120W

so should be sufficient to cover it. wouldnt be in the peak efficiency band of the PSU but you are not going to loose out much.

I wouldn't change it but I would start using 2 pcie cables rather than one asap.
