I bought everything before realising just how bad this GPU shortage is, be glad you're not me! I think I will have these parts lying around for 6 months at this rate, thank god I didn't go ahead and buy that £500 screen as well...

I'm usually fairly savvy with purchases, this was a big mistake.

I bought components last March and they sat in boxes until only a month ago when I built it. :( Not to do with GPU shortage but covid and living arrangements all last year. There are GPUs out there...things will get better by summer I expect. For now, maybe pick up something cheap to tide you over.

Well that's somewhat reassuring! Life sometimes puts things on hold. I'm struggling to find really old models like the 1050ti for a decent price (crazy), the annoying thing is that in 3 months once things cool down with prices I will not have the free time I have now. Quite disappointed about it, was really looking forward to rekindling my love of the Total War games as I haven't played any since Medieval 2.

I managed to get a gtx 960 for £50. You may be better off just looking for a low end card to get the display running and everything build and play what you can

Send them back, and buy a Ps5. Unless you can get a 3060ti at rrp pc gaming is almost pointless at the moment. IMO anyway.

If your interested in it the nvidia 3060 releases in 3 days on the 25th, I understand at 5pm, although it might be worth checking earlier in the day to see if some places release it a bit early. I have seen one place put £299 in the item description of a 3060 card which is MRSP

You can run Medieval 2 TW on a toaster by the looks of it, so getting an adequate GPU shouldn't be an issue. Dunno about the newer TWs.

But you can get a 3400g pre built for £300 that i'd like to think would run older TWs at 1080p with ease. The 3400g can do some modern games at very acceptable standards, like Resi 2 (2019) at 1080p 45/60fps.

I'd be looking at that kind of thing to play with until your life allows more time. And send back whatever you purchased.

I've played Medieval 2 to death now and quite bored of it, it is the only game my 2013 Macbook Pro can handle without exploding. I'd been looking forward to getting into Three Kingdoms, Rome 2, Troy, and even Warhammer.

depends what you like to play really. There's a bunch of games I can't play on my PS5 that require my PC.

That's assuming you can even get a PS5 right now

Yeah that's true, luckily I have a card but if I didn't I'd probably get a AGPU for stuff like factiro etc that don't need much grunt.

Getting a PS5 is easier than a PC though, right?

Pst month it's probably a bit of six and two three's. I think you either need a discord bot or be willing to pay etailers rates (in the case of GPUS), or be lucky.

Sorry misread your post a bit there. Search "3400g totalwar" on youtube and you'll get some rough figures on the performance. Given you're keen / lack of time when the GPU mining dust settles if it does, the performance looks good enough imo.

I'm playing games at 1080p at 72fps max mind :p

For what it's worth, I play Warhammer II via a GeForce 1060 6GB with no performance issues. Not sure where that sits in the grand scheme of cards, but as the PC is 4 years old I assume not particularly highly.

still a decent 1080p gaming card. As long as you dont chase ultra settings every time its more than adequate.
