Gpu bound says 71% Am I getting bottlenecked by the cpu? I did several runs and it varied from 55-71%. I saw that cpu utilitisation goes upto 80% mid benchmark in some scenes. Referring to other people’s benchmarks they had 98–99% Gpu bound. What am I doing wrong here? Any input is appreciated. Thank you!

Yes the RTX3080 and 3090 will get bottlenecked in some games if you run at low resolution like that, even on the best gaming cpu money can buy

I understand. But this is only in my case. I saw several people with the same setup. Even a 3600x. They have 98-99% “gpu bound” in their benchmark ss.

Here's my benchmark at 3440x1440 using a 6900 XT showing 71% GPU bound:

And here is another at ultrawide 4K showing 99% GPU bound:

My own theory in regard to this is that the 3090 and 6900XT have so much muscle, that they are shifting the GPU bound resolution from what was historically 1440p over to 4K. I know there are still some newer games that are still GPU bound at 1440p but this game is a few years old now isn't it. Also, SOTTR is known to be particularly demanding on the CPU so that could be coming in to play in some way.

I'm not sure if you've seen other cards at this level showing 99% in this benchmark or not at 1440? I upgraded from a 3600 to a 5800X and saw a huge performance increase of over 25 frames in this benchmark at 3440x1440 which would seem to support the heavy CPU utilisation claim for this game.

Finally, someone with similar numbers. And yes I’m positive about seeing other 3080’s having 99% gpu bound. I tried a different test and set everything to the utmost max and dlss on and this time I hit 99% even though my fps dropped.

Ikr? 75-80% I was very surprised. Don’t know if this is the case only for me or everybody else.
Bear in mind there's a few settings (level of details, shadow quality, AF) that go higher than when set using preset: highest

If you whack them them up to full you'll probably see a bit higher GPU bound settings, for me its 98% at custom highest vs 87% for preset highest.

And you can up the AA too which would likely mean 99%+ GPU bound.

Yes the OP is not running the real 'ULTRA' settings. Setting Anti-Aliasing to SMAA4X alone will probably make it 90%+ GPU bound.

Yes I tested this and maxes out everything with dlss and got 99% as I stated in the comment above. I’m not surprised by this but the fact that other people got 99% at the same settings irked me out. Anyways what I discovered now is that every time I reset bios to optimised defaults my performance goes up along with my gpu utilisation. After a few shutdowns it goes back to my initial performance. Very weird. I’ll have to make a seperate post about this explaining.

I doubt it. Had a 5600x and you can OC that puppy pretty good. Up to 5ghz on PBO - 4.7 all cores manual OC. It aint going to bottleneck your comp. Something else is at work here.

Memory OC and timings is key.

Yeah I know, just enabling pbo gets it to 4.8 all cores. Idk what’s wrong. The bios thing I mentioned above is definitely something going wrong.

have you installed latest AMD mobo drivers, selected power plan "balanced" "high performance" in the Windows 10?

I would try manual OC the cpu just to see if your CPU isnt throttling on the PBO side.

load up manual oc 4.6 or 4.7 with 1.25-1.3 volts and run that see what you get?

Next up what memory are you running at? whats your fabric speed and mem speed and what timings. reducing the latency ns gives a great boost to these CPUs.

Yes the latest chipset and the second bios that came. I’m running at 3600mhz 16-19-19-39. So I ran a few tests and resetting bios gives me 5% boost in fps. And after a couple of shutdowns it goes back to normal. Rest bios once again(load optimised default option) and it goes back up by 5% again. I have an msi b550 tomahawk and a nzxt c750 psu.
