Hellooo

I'll be wanting more electric points installing in various rooms, what's the crack on new builds?

Older houses people just extent the current lot, but new builds do they need singing off or only to be done by particular qualified people?

The craic is that anyone can install them but they’ll need to pass inspection and meet the requirements of the current IEEE regs (I think currently 18th Edn). In practice it’s best to get a qualified electrician to install them.

Same rules for new or old. Easier with new as circuits will all be RCD protected as standard. You can extend the ring or spur off depending on how many sockets you need. Its easy work really.

If house is still being build get the builders to put them in.

Done it before in other houses, easy enough.

Right, so technically its fine to do it yourself as long as its up to par and regulation standards?

Aye, it's literally for adding an extra socket to a room as there isn't any on one side of it.

Seeing as its related but semi off topic, what about networking? Anything for that?

Yup.

Re networking you are free to do as you wish. Only advice there would be to put in more cables than you need. So if you nned one outlet in a room, put two. They are like mains sockets - you always find you need more at a later date, lol.

Cheers, yeah will be doing that...made a thread on it a week ago i think for people thoughts on how to run the cables as I want to avoid destroying the walls at the moment!

Nope. Not in a domestic dwelling.
