Car is a Volvo S60 (2013) I normally just jack cars up on the sills then put the axel stands there, anoyingly this Volvo has plastic all the way down the sill apart from 2 specific points, allowing you only enough room for the jack, and not axel stands.

Looking under the car I can see the bottom of the subframe, forgive the poor quality images the sun was shining through the other side plus my phone camera is frankly, crap. But this appears to be the best area to support the car from.

But my question is, I need to put an axel stand under this area, but my axel stands are as below.

The "U" shape at the top isnt ideal to sit under any of that part of the sub frame, I know you can get rubber pads that can go on top, or something else?

Any ideas?

I have placed them in a similar location to the bolt in your pictures (the big bolt). They don't sit dead flat but i managed to get the axle stand placed from the bolt to the curved down part of the frame. If the stand sits nice and flat it wont be going anywhere. You'll feel it take the weight of the car and know if its a secure location.

In reference to the 'U' shape, stick it somewhere solid and if it is a bit iffy throw a noggin in between. No need to buy rubber adaptors.

where would they put the arms(with nylon protectors) if it was put on a garage hoist ?

but I wouldn't locate a stand under a bolt, that's unstable; rather the high edges on the stand need to be touching bodywork eg. metalwork around the slot to left of big bolt.
I invariably have a wheel off anyway, placed under the body.

Ohhh yea. To be fair I don't really need to get underneath it this time, but yes always do this.

I need to get to the alarm unit which you access by taking the plastic inner wheel arch cover off.

2 for a fiver, I sawed a small piece off either side on an angle and they sit in the axle stands.

Haha nice! Yea I think I'll give that a go.
