Hi I am looking to upgrade my workstation.

My current setup is
i5 4670K 3.4GHz (4 cores, 4 threads)
GB Z97X-UD5H Motherboard
32GB G Skill DDR3 2400Mhz
ATI Radeon 512MB HD 4800 Series Graphics Card.

I don't really tend to play games but I do a lot of processing and run virtual machines.

I wondering if I should look to with AMD or Intel?

Some of the AMD processors look ok but they all appear to be orientated towards Gamers and I need something that supports most of the common CPU instruction sets.

I was thinking about sticking with Intel and go along the lines of an i9 with around 10 cores?
Then I will need a semi decent Motherboard to go with it and around 32-64GB RAM.

I'm not too bothered about a graphics card and can stick with what I have because my monitors can only support 1080P HD.

Please can someone recommend something.

Thanks

Maybe something along these lines.

AMD is a good option but they only have 6 and 8 core CPUs from their current stuff in stock and those are priced the same or higher or than intels 8/10 core CPUs

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £720.43 (includes shipping: £10.50)

It appears that none of the Intel CPUs support PCIe 4.0 or DD4 3200?

What is going on there?

Thanks

You got your AMD INTEL all wrong. AMD is king on multicore work loads and VM. Loads of cores, all the latest tech. You can’t go wrong with AMD for VM
