I have this in a web browsing PC, bought from the bay some time ago . Is 1gb unusual it seems most have 4gb and others have 2gb i cant see any that have ever had 1gb, i believe it was a taken from a Dell PC, i assume they just sourced there own to keep costs down

It's strange. Is the card really RX 550 or R5 240, for example?
Hmm, I was thinking that someone opened the card and removed some of the memory modules.

Why would Dell do this? It should be an official OEM version or something.

yes it looks like an R5 240 but is sold as and detected as an RX550

Can you post a picture of the card - there definitely aren't any 1gb versions of the RX550.

More likely a driver/reporting error - what does GPU-Z show?

RX 550 has same feature set as any other RX / Polaris card, so yes, should be able to.

Hi, No its doesnt :( , AMD cards appear not to support the VP9 codec specifically used in youtube. only Nvidia 9 series or later. it will just switch to CPU, as mine is crap it wont play

Ah, sorry, didn't realise it used VP9. According to what I read on the interweb, Polaris has some limited support in pre-17 WHQL drivers 16.7.3 and 16.9.2 (at least with Firefox). What version driver are you using?

this is sort of crossing with my other thread on 4K. I have bought a Quadro P400 from mm for £40 will give that a try. I have just tried my work laptop on youtube at 4k with a quadro P2000 and its decoding with the GPU, its still possible that the poor core2quad might still bottleneck, i will post them up in the other thread when it arrives
